Morning, afternoon, evening. Even when im sleeping I feel sick and its only week 5!!!!

This is my second pregnancy, the first was horific sickness wise. This time im breastfeeding too so i think that is helping (but maybe its the placebo effect).

Diet coke helps but i dont want to be lugging a fizzy drink everyday.

Please can some wise mn's give me advice on what ACTUALLY worked for them as opposed to all the advice on the net. Thanks

Hello. My Dds are now 13 & 10 so morning sickness was a long time ago Smile BUT I was very ill with it. 24 hour nausea and vomiting. I lost a stone in the first 3 months and it was no better second time around.

I never found anything that worked but I was lucky in that it went by 5 months both times. Just wanted to sympathise really. I remember exactly how horrid it was.

Really hope you feel better soon.

I feel your pain too. I was sick for 2-3 hours each morning and then just horribly nauseous for the rest of the day until about 20 odd weeks. I didn't find much that helped but did notice that when I was less tired I didn't feel quite so bad. However as I had an 18 month old napping during the day wasn't always possible, particularly when I was at work! I tried to get to bed as early as i could I also found that eating almost continually did also help - mostly crunchy salty stuff, crisps, mini cheddars etc. and also drinking as much really cold water as I could, some days much harder than others. I did put on a lot of weight in those first few months but now I'm feeling better I have lost a bit as I'm not eating so much!

I hope you find something which helps. I just kept thinking that I just needed to keep my head down and wait for it to pass but the time went horribly slowly. Now 36 weeks and time is whizzing by!

Doretaball, just reminded me that I also felt a little better after eating walkers ready salted crisps! I had forgotten that!

SarryB · 07/09/2012 11:55

Poor you! I suffered badly with constant sickness until week 18. I found eating Tuc biscuits (or any savoury biscuit) before I even got out of bed really helped. I would chow down about 5 biscuits lying down in bed, and then wait about 10 minutes before I actually got up.

I also drank a lot of super-weak black tea with sugar, and ate a lot of salty crisps. And eating all the time too!

imustbepatient · 07/09/2012 12:19

Savoury salty crunchy things were the only thing I found which made a dint too. Some days they didn't help at all, others they would give me 20 minutes or so of respite. Plus drinking as much water as you can manage. Other than that it was just resting as much as toddler and work allow and having my lovely DH take over doing all the cooking (and everything else round the house!) so I could collapse on the sofa at the end of the day. Fortunately it stopped at about 17/18 weeks. My heart goes out to those poor people who have it the whole way through!

water biscuits,
mints
sweets - lemon sherbets
crusty bread
ginger snaps/biscuits
muffins
scotch pancakes
lemon squash
fruit smoothies

I had hypremesis for whole 9 months with ds, wound up on a drip for 4 days lost 2 stone. eat whatever the heck you fancy, keep sipping drinks.

MadMonkeys · 07/09/2012 13:28

Oh I feel for you, it's rough isn't it. Salty crisps gave me some relief too, and grazing throughout the day helped. I found tonic water helped a bit too. And it was definitely worse when I was more tired. Fortunately it stopped for me at about 14 weeks. Hope you feel better soon.

mumnosGOLDisbest · 07/09/2012 13:34

try travel sickness wrist bands. they worked a treat for me. I started wearing them at 8 wks and sickness stopped. i'd say within reason have whatever helps, if its diet coke then maybe your body needs it. sickness is a signof a healthy pg :)

FreeButtonBee · 07/09/2012 13:38

At the start S&V crisps were my saviour. Had to be posh kettle chip style ones.

Really strong mints also helped a bit.
Also San Pelligrino Limon drink

I am obviously having posh babies!

Doretaball · 07/09/2012 13:39

Oh yes. Fruit smoothies did really help me too. . I'd forgotten that. Bulk bought frozen berries and whizzed up with a banana and some milk. Yum - fancy one of those right now!

zigwig · 07/09/2012 16:46

Just wanted to sympathize as i'm just coming out of the same thing. Couldn't eat or drink, lost a stone, couldnt leave the house. I'm afraid nothing helped. Polo mints took a fracton of an edge off it but nothing made me feel better. Wallowing in the bath was the best thing I could do and stick to boring food. Lived off scrambled egg or cheese on toast for a fair bit. At 12 weeks it's finally starting to ease so hang on in there.

tabbycat7 · 07/09/2012 16:50

It's horrible isn't it. I'm now 35 wks and still occasionally nauseous, but nothing like as bad as in the early days. Fizzy mineral water, crisps, toast, cream crackers, but the best thing was lemons. I'd hack bits off and nibble them. Not great for indigestion though.

spandau1980 · 07/09/2012 16:50

Im now 18 weeks and only juststarting to feel better...
I was so desperate for it too go and didn't think id cope.. but.Im here...
Good luck... ps nothing helped me sadly :(

emeraldgirl1 · 07/09/2012 17:08

Huge 2nd to the person who said travel sickness bands... I started wearing them at 6 weeks when nausea hit (all day) with a vengeance and they really took the edge off. I still felt nauseous sadly but it was bearable.
If it helps at all I've just hit week 12 and nausea has vanished literally overnight.
