Of course not.

All eggs (if that's what you're worried about) used by any commercial establishment will be vaccinated against salmonella. It matters not whether you eat them raw, semi cooked or boiled into next week.

Calm down.

Spammertime · 07/09/2012 09:05

No

The potential issue with all of those things is the higher than usual risk of food poisoning (or one of the nastier versions ie salmonella etc). So if you're ok now then you're ok!

I used to worry much more about where something was from than what it was on that basis.

You're not going to harm your baby by eating ANYTHING. All you are doing is trying to avoid getting food poisoning. If you had food poisoning, you would know it by now.

Grrrr these stupid food rules and all the resultant panic really piss me off!!

Spammertime · 07/09/2012 09:09

You and me both Cake

Elvisrules · 07/09/2012 09:20

Okay thanks ladies, sorry for the panic! I thought those were all things to avoid because of the raw eggs, obviously misinformed!

thank you for the reassurance.

You were misinformed but only because the nhs did guidelines are rubbish and misleading.

CakeBump · 07/09/2012 10:04

The main one to worry about OP is listeria, and actually you are most likely to get that from supermarket bought bags of washed salad and pre-cut fruit.

Yet neither of these things are on the "be careful" list, so make of that what you will...

FoxyRoxy · 07/09/2012 10:44

Lemon merengue pie is cooked, so are cheesecakes usually unless they're fridge set ones and then they'll contain gelatine not eggs. And I doubt any food establishment would serve anything containing raw eggs without warning. But all eggs used in catering are vaccinated so it doesn't matter anyway! As someone said you're more likely to get ill from pre-packed salad.

Elvisrules · 07/09/2012 11:33

blimey - so would you all be cautious with that then? the pre-cut fruit thing is a bit of a worry - been putting that away too!

but guess what you're all saying is I will know if I am getting ill - that's the time to worry, and in the meantime just kind of relax a bit!

thank you all

Like I said above, I used to worry far more about where something was from. So marks and spencer cut fruit - yes I'd have eaten. Dodgy little cafe at the station where things looked like they'd been there all week - not a chance!!

CakeBump · 07/09/2012 13:17

No, actually Elvis I'm not cautious about any particular food, other that doing everything I usually do to avoid food poisoning.

I'm non-UK, and once I realised to rules are completely different in different countries, I decided for myself what I thought was safe and what not.

ThePsychicSatsuma · 07/09/2012 13:19

relax, sure you'll be fine. Many pg ladies make food-based mistakes.
sounds delicious!!

CakeBump · 07/09/2012 14:26

They aren't mistakes though Satsuma. It's just food.

That's what irks me...

MsElisaDay · 07/09/2012 14:39

Me too, CakeBump. It's not a "mistake" that I've been eating runny poached eggs throughout my pregnancy, it was my conscious decision to do so, because I've done my own research and come to the conclusion that I don't think there's any harm in lion-marked, salmonella-free eggs.

Ditto cheeses, mayonnaise, black coffees and the odd glass of wine.

I get really, really frustrated by people scaremongering over food. The other day a friend tried to tell me I couldn't eat an ice cream, ffs! Pregnant women need guidelines based on fact, not half-truths that cause a lot of unnecessary panic and upset.
