I have a problem in that I have no real problems so far, so I don't know who to speak to if I have a h concerns! Do I phone my doctor, or do I speak to the antenatal dept at the hospital.

Are you supposed to know who your midwife is?

Anyway, I am only 17 weeks and I feel a heavy bloated feeling low down in my pelvic area, is this normal or should I be worried? It's like a have a permanently full bladder but I can't actually go.

Plus, are leg cramps at night normal?

Plus, why am I getting such severe wind cramps?

Does any of this sound like something I should be worried about?

I would always get advice from a MW / doc tbh. They won't necessarily reassure you as sometimes they just don't know. I had a lot of pelvic pressure early on (around 14- 20 weeks) which thankfully subsided at uterus grew up.

The leg cramps can be a pain - I have had them very occasionally. People recommended eating half a banana before bed and it seemed to help - coincidence maybe :)

Wind cramps not sure about but your bean is probably just starting to squish your bowel about.

Try not to worry but always worth asking a professional to get your mind set at rest.

I'm 15 weeks and having a lot of pressure.

Do speak to your local early pregnancy unit if you have concerns though, they will set your mind at rest.

Angelico the banana would have alleviated cramp as its a sign or potassium deficiency. So OP try that for the cramps. My mum always said cramp was a sign of too much salt but I think thats an old wives tale!

OP I remember all of the above and now with no 2 on the way Im sure Ill remember loads of other aches and pains. Remember that as baby grows your organs get shoved out the way and a wriggly baby will kick and squash those organs. Baby may be experimenting with being head down and quite low hence the pelvic heaviness. Baby may also be laying on your bladder causing the needing a wee feeling. perfectly normal as are twinges and pains down there. Only be concerned if you have prolonged unbearable pain or bleeding. At 37 weeks I passed out after a horrific band of pain shot across my bump and was rushed into hospital in an ambulance. It turned out baby had been back to back and had rather violently turned round squashing organs as it did so ... so try not to worry.

Wind cramps were also a huge issue. Its often a sign as you're getting bigger that certain eating patterns arent agreeing with you as much... try cutting out fatty foods, eating 5 small meals instead of 3 large ones, dont eat late at night and make sure you dont slouch when eating as everything is already crushed in there! Also increasing fibre intake may help ease digestion. If it gets really painful (tmi warning) go and lie down on your left hand side and gently push down with a stroking motion from where your stomach is ... the gas will be helped through your system and out the other end this way. the quicker its out the less painful it'll be (sorry everyone!!)

Aches, pains, being uncomfortable etc is all really normal. Yes by all means speak to your mw if you are worried (maybe mention some of these at your next check up).

I'm 17 weeks today and experiencing all of the same symptoms of you.

TittyWhistles · 07/09/2012 17:04

I was getting restless legs in bed til I stopped drinking tea after 7pm. The caffeine ain't good.
The other symptoms sound right for 17 weeks. Your stomach muscles are stretching. If you could see your guts right now you'd realise why they are getting gassy and upset! They are getting squished about, I'm 19 weeks and getting stomach rumblings up near my ribs.

Call your children's centre or wherever you go for your antenatal appointments, they should be able to tell you which midwife you are under.

It's pretty strange, this pregnancy lark, I've done it 4 times and I never get used to it!

The main thing is that none of those niggles will be affecting your baby in any way.

Thanks for the reassurance everyone! It's so nice to feel and know that these things are normal!!
