Writing a birth plan for ELCS

I am having an ELCS on 20.9 and I am in the process of writing my birth plan. The NCT one and others that I have found say Please do not lift out (exteriorise) my uterus for stitching. I have 3 questions:

  1. is this common
  2. what are the other options
  3. what are the risks of both options

I don't know but had not heard of this (keep meaning to look at the nct one just not got round to it yet!) so I am going to google and investigate!

sounds like exteriorising (phone won't even spell it?) has some risks, I've had 2 sections and always assumed they had stitched it while it was still in my tum Confused

My elective section is 24th, think there's quite a few of us around that week or so! :)

I saw this as well and asked my obstetrician about it (have ELCS on 17.09)and he said that normally they would not exteriorise the womb and sew it up without taking it out. I can recommend reading this book on planned CS where they explain ELCS step by step in lots of detail:

I know mrswoz I had an EMCS with DS1 and assumed that they stiched me inside. I have seen from googling that one of the risk of stitching inside is that they can stitch the bladder to the womb. Not yet found any risks of stitching outside the womb. I have never heard of it but assumed that it was quite common after finding it on so many template birth plans. Confused

Ach, Im much happier not knowing what goes on at all the other side of the curtain! If they want to have a good root around my fallopians they are quite welcome to. Grin

I must admit I would rather not know exactly what goes on and have requested the curtain for that reason. Its just that as I keep getting told, this is major surgery and it seems that there are more options than I thought were possible (and some bits like this that I didn't understand)
