Excited...and scared

Found out this weekend that I'm pregnant for the first time! Eek! Mostly am thrilled and excited.
But two things are worrying me and I was hoping to draw on some experience from this forum....
One I don't dare Google: it's that I'm cramping quite a lot. Am 4 weeks 4 days according to the online calculators (although conceived prob just 2.5 weeks ago). It's pretty uncomfortable, and pretty constant.
Any ideas? Good/bad??

The second thing is that I am totally doolally. Loco. Can't remember my husband's phone number and can barely hold a conversation.
But my job is very stressful and full-on and I'm really worried I won't be able to do it. Last week was horrific - i was barely functional.
Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do? Was considering informing my (male) boss of the situation in confidence just so he is aware I've not just flipped....what do you think?

Any advice so, so gratefully received.

Stretchy crampy feelings are normal, if scary, so try not to worry.

My brain has gone too, I just try not to take on too much and make lots of excuses for ditzing!

Congratulations!

Congratulations!! I remember those pains. Worrying but entirely normal. Things are limbering up for a massive stretch!! It's also normal to feel slightly bonkers! There's a lot going on in your life now and then a massive surge of hormones kicks in to help out.
Am 34 weeks now and it all carries on.... :)

congrats :)
i had the same cramps with my 1st ! i was convinced i was gunna come on my period the whole 1st 3mths and there would be no baby there on the 1st scan, and i told my boss after the 1st scan

BonaDea · 04/09/2012 16:38

I also had cramping for the first few weeks. I was absolutely SURE my period was on the way, but got a nice surprise instead.

To be honest, I wouldn't tell your boss just yet. Your hormones and just generally your emotions are all over the place at the moment, but they will probably settle down. When I first found out I was convinced I would get nothing done for the next 35 weeks or so, but you soon get over the initial all consuming obsession and you might then be glad you've kept it to yourself a little longer!

Beaver33 - sounds like you and I are pretty much same dates - I am 4 weeks and 5 days today.. and have had intermittent cramping too. Saw the GP today and she says its fine, if it gets very severe and you have any bleeding then she said to call them or go to A&E. From the (obsessive!) reading i have been doing on the internet at every spare moment, it seems to be pretty normal to have the cramping. Also have been in the worst mood ever today and literally on the verge of tears nonstop! Please tell me I am not going mad??

BonaDea - this sounds like very good advice! Lovely to hear it from someone who has done all this before!

Good luck everyone

xx

Thanks guys. So lovely to have such reassuring support at a time when it's so hard to talk about, and great to hear a similar story from Jojo2111 - really helpful. Am glad your GP was useful and it's made me feel better.

BonaDea, re my boss, I'm just concerned as my job can involve long, late hours and last-minute travel and I'm not sure my emotional and physical state is up to it. I think if i was asked to drive 200 miles at the drop of a hat I'd literally start weeping. So I thought he'd go a little easier on me if he knew...it's so hard, isn't it?

And I'm sure I'll stop obsessing over every detail eventually....fingers crossed...

xx

I think cramping is totally normal too, I had this in the first weeks, just felt like period pain as others have said. I have also just had something similar at 14 weeks although has stopped now. I think it's just the stretching really. My job is pretty stressful and I told my boss straight away on the understanding that it was 100% confidential, he was fine with that and (as far as I know) didn't tell anyone. I am glad I did because I felt like I didn't have to lie.

I am just over 5 weeks. Achey feelings and really sore back! Really nervous too. Not sure his I will last to 12 weeks for the scan. I worry about every little niggle and twinge but figure out there is nothing that can be done so just need to try and relax !! Easier said than done!!
