icandy peach or babystyle oyster

does anybody have any thoughts on these two? Really like the icandy, but it is so much more expensive and just wondering if the price hike is worth it. think the oyster might be false economy though if it can't be converted into a double later...

I'd only get the peach if you 100% need a double later. If not the oyster is a far better price and essentially the same.

sparklekitty · 03/09/2012 19:34

We bought an oyster (still waiting for it to be delivered) Mainly because the icandy was just a little bit too big for DH's car but also the oyster is much cheaper. I really liked the icandy, esp as you can make it into a double (we plan on having a second within a couple of years if all goes well) but for now the oyster won out.

mylittlemonkey · 03/09/2012 20:03

I got an iCandy peach wth my first and sold it when pg with second as DS grew out of the stroller at about 18 months. He is taller than average for his age but the foot rest really does not give much growth room and the footmuff was the same too as his legs would be bunched up inside. Unless you ar planning to have them in very close succession I would not really recommend if thats the main reason you are choosing it. You also have to buy the twin adapters, new stroller and carry cot attachments which are slightly smaller when you convert not a twin so you are still going to be spending more money even when the second comes along. Otherwise though the iCandy peach is a really lovely pram and I was always getting stopped and asked about it. Handles really well and can easily manoeavure with one hand.

beckslovestimmy · 03/09/2012 20:03

Really like the oyster, was having a play with it in mothercare care today. Think we'll be getting that.

whatsoever · 03/09/2012 20:31

I've got the Oyster but LO not born yet so can't tell you if it's actually good yet!

The iCandy was too big for my car. Of the usual suspects, only the Oyster or the Bugaboo Bee would fit in my boot (Fiesta) which made choosing significantly easier.

HollyB83 · 03/09/2012 21:10

I spent ages deciding between these two and eventually went for oyster because the peach was really big and heavy and would take up too much room in car. Depending on when you're due have u seen the oyster max they are bringing out that converts single to double? I would love one but baby is due before its going to be released?

ItsMyLastOne · 04/09/2012 10:41

Holly I was just about to sugges the Oyster Max too!

It does look really good. My sister had a play with it on Sunday at the Manchester baby show. They're currently saying the end of the year as a release date but I wouldn't hold your breath tbh! I'm due at the beginning of December and. Think I'll be getting a different double as a stop gap till the oyster max is out.

I have an oyster and it is really good for the money. It has lots of features you'd expect from a more expensive pushchair. The only couple of drawbacks are that the wheels can get stuck going down curbs, but this isn't so bad on newer models (mine is almost 2 years old); and the seating position isn't great when at its most upright. The Oyster Max seat is more upright and seems to work better, and the wheels look loads better too. I love that the Oyster folds with the seat facing either way and how narrow it is.

This should help you compare the Oyster and Peach, and here is some info about the Oyster Max. There should be some new info from the baby show on there in the next couple of days too.

McKayz · 04/09/2012 10:44

I have the Oyster and I love it. I've had a big Mamas and Papas Ultima and a Phil and Teds and this is easily the best.

You can have the front wheels fixed or swivel able which I find really good. I prefer them fixed but DH doesn't. I also love all the different colours.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 04/09/2012 10:48

I love my oyster too. With DD1 (now 8). I went through a few pushchairs.

With DD2 (21 months) the oyster is still going strong. As said above, it's excellent value for the money. A

kaymondo · 04/09/2012 15:16

I've got the icandy - just bought it for DS who has just turned 2 and DC2 who is due any day now. I know a lot of people who've said their toddlers have grown out of the icandy really early, but have to say my DS has plenty of room in there and he is average height for his age, if not slightly above average. It looks fab and manouvres really well - using it in single mode at the moment while we wait for DC2 to put in an appearance but can't wait to get the carry cot on there too!
I've not really had a good look at the oyster ones, but have heard they're good.

crackcrackcrak · 04/09/2012 15:21

Envy! I wish I'd bought an oyster with dd1 they ate do petite and light and look really nice I think. A friend regrets her iCandy peach as its so big and heavy.
I'd get an oyster now but need a double for dd's 1 and 2. Envy!

PipJoy · 04/09/2012 20:07

Thanks guys, so many useful responses, and so pleased to hear lots of positivity about the oyster, as it does seem great on paper, obviously good in real life too! Bit gutted the max doesn't come out till the end of the year as due in December... Would have been perfect. Thanks for all your help all! I think it's going to be the oyster for us...

I would be very tempted to try and hold out a bit longer to see if there's a release date for the Oyster Max. If it's only a couple of weeks you'd have to wait, you might be able to make do with a sling or borrow a pushchair from a friend or something.
What date are you due? And is this your first?

mylittlemonkey · 04/09/2012 20:49

Also agree with the big and heavy issue with the iCandy and does take a lot of room in car. This time going for a bugaboo bee which just folds in half and I have enough from selling my iCandy to buy it so a plus point for I candy is that it really holds its value well and it sold on eBay in under an hour so still v popular.

The Babystyle website says winter/spring 2012/13 for the Oyster Max Sad

PipJoy · 05/09/2012 08:07

I'm due on the 20th December, tempted to hang on but winter /spring sounds ominous... Might call babystyle I think, try and find out a bit more. To be honest, bit clueless about options for two, maybe there are cheaper ways. Keep seeing absolutely loads of people out and about with single and double maclarens, and they are much cheaper aren't they?

OP posts:
OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 05/09/2012 08:10

I always think the best thing to do is ask them. I've stopped people before, and asked what they think of their pushchair. They have never seemed to mind.

I've heard some of the side by side buggy types are a bit of a pain in the arse but haven't tried them.

milk · 05/09/2012 08:56

Wait for the Babystyle Oyster Max :)

ItsMyLastOne · 05/09/2012 11:11

A maclaren? Really? After trying out a proper pushchair I can't see you being happy with a maclaren. We had a double one which was horrendous. It was like driving a tank, I hated not being able to see the children, the baskets are crap, especially when the seats are reclined, no supension so you feel everything, we'd get stuck everywhere, and that's when we weren't stuck trying to get through narrow gaps... I can see why people buy them for holidays or for keeping in the car for a toddler, but I would never have one as my only pushchair!

Babystyle have been saying december to lots of people, including a woman I know who'll be testing it from October, so fingers crossed the wait won't be too long. I'm due on 3rd December and am fully expecting to spend the following few weeks rocking in a corner not being out much so I could get by with a sling and pushchair for DD if need be.

sleepdodger · 05/09/2012 11:19

It's my last one - if you're due dec you'll be ok without anything till jan using a sling then get the shiny new one Grin

PipJoy · 05/09/2012 15:37

Hmm, just spoke to them and they said don't count on it - it may be Spring - i.e. March / April!!

OP posts:
ItsMyLastOne · 06/09/2012 10:44

sleepdodger I know I could cope with a sling and single but it doesn't sound much fun! It's also likely I'll often be looking after my DN as well from around December. Both my DD and DN will be 2.2 when DD2 is due and they can be a nightmare when out so I want to be able to strap as many children down as possible! Wink
I'm also a self confessed pramoholic, and I have just ordered a bargain side by side for now. Blush Grin

PipJoy Spring? Sad They're driving me mad, originally they were saying this summer!

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 06/09/2012 10:46

I asked them yesterday. They said its in the final stages of testing and they hope to have it out by the end of the year.

Rockchick1984 · 06/09/2012 11:20

Just be aware that the iCandy prams aren't suitable for use with a buggy board (can cause the frame to buckle) whereas the oyster is fine with one. Just that if baby no2 takes longer than you are planning, the iCandy may be redundant anyway if your eldest prefers to walk most of the time by then.

I have an oyster and love it, DS still has plenty of growing room in it (he's 17 months but v chunky!) and I'm on my third colour change (can get a new hood and liner for about £45) so not got bored of it as quickly as I have with all my previous prams :)

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 06/09/2012 11:26

I'm just about to buy a buggy board for my Oyster. Is it right that you have to buy the Babstyle one, as no other will fit?
