Hi all,

I am 25 weeks with my first. Everyone keeps telling me what a little bump I have and someone even today looked shocked when I said how far gone I was.

The midwife hasnt expressed any concern but I still can't relax and I'm not going to see her for another 3 weeks.

Can I measure myself or do anything to check myself??

Im so worried about it!

Many thanks x

I'm 31 weeks and an entire shop had no idea I was pregnant just thought I had a bit of a belly!! That was yesterday dress shopping with my sister and them asking what I would be wearing and would I like to try on!!

I didn't start showing till about 26 weeks, then I hold it well! Mw measurements are all fine, baby measurements ok so I'm not worried and happy to be active etc!

Ihatepeas · 31/08/2012 22:38

I'm was exactly the same at 25 weeks. I'm 32 weeks now and feel huge! At your next midwife app (28 weeks) they will measure your bump. I really wouldn't worry everybody's different and you still have plenty of time to get a huge baby bump!

sunnyday123 · 31/08/2012 22:40

I hid mine in work til 24 weeks so or worry!

I met someone I knew through work but hadn't seen for a year or two as I was going into the hospital for my 40 week check and they didn't realise I was pregnant. I know it was January and I was wearing a fleece, but I was full term for goodness sake. People who did realise said things like 'What a neat little bump'.

Dd was a healthy 7 pounds 12 ounces.

I can tell you now there is little that is more dispiriting than to have a nine-month bump and it not to be obvious it is a baby bump (I should say, I am not overweight - I was size 12 when I went into that pregnancy so it's not like I was a size 38 and concealing the bump completely. I'm a bit bigger now - ahem! must stop calling it baby weight, the baby is now 3! - but even so, i like to think a nine-month bump would be obvious as more than just a bit of added padding!

You've probably got great stomach muscles which are holding the baby more in than out (which probably means you'll find youself panting for breath as the baby gets bigger and squishes up into your lungs as your toned, sleek muscles refuse to let the baby stretch out!)!!

Some people at work didn't realise I was pregnant when I was 32 weeks. I did wear scrubs, but come on. I'm now 36 weeks and people are shocked and think I have months to go.
Measuring fine though, I think different bumps just carry a bit differently.
I'm neither big nor skinny, was a size 10 pre-pregnancy, and short. at 25 weeks it's probably still stomach muscles holding it all in, so be happy!

ps. ignore what people say, for some reason people just love to comment on bumps, and they can be pretty rude about it!

Nobody I hadn't actually told knew I was pregnant till 34 weeks! DS was 9lb.

One acquaintance asked where I'd got him from!

Notgrownupinmyhead · 01/09/2012 10:18

I didnt start showing properly til i was about 6 months now at 38+6 i have my own orbit and postcode and got pg 8 wks after popping out ds2 so by belly hadnt even gone back to normal.

You'll probably get bigger the last few months. Like others have said people just cant help the verbal diarrhoea when it comes to a woman's bump size.

GrandPoohBah · 01/09/2012 10:34

I'm 27 weeks, and when I told the woman who works in our local shop I was 6 months, she pulled a shocked face and asked me if there were two in there! I'm measuring perfectly for my dates so I've decided to ignore it.

Loislane78 · 01/09/2012 18:32

Same here, didn't tell people until I was 20 odd weeks and few people realized.

Trust me, whilst its nice to show off and be proud of your bump, you will get comments on the size no matter what (too small/big) and when you get to the end you'll be grateful for a nice compact bump :)

noblegiraffe · 01/09/2012 19:37

I remember at 41 weeks a woman in a shop asking when I was due and looking astounded when I said 'last week'. People kept saying 'your bump is so small' which wasn't helpful when I felt like an elephant. Baby was good weight, just hiding (I had an extra scan to check).

monkeynumberthree · 01/09/2012 22:07

Are you very tall? I am (over 6ft) and it can really affect how you carry a baby as you have lots more expansion space in your abdomen.

With DD1 loads of people at work didn't realise I was pg until the week before I went on mat leave (at 37wks). I have photos from my last day at work and, although I felt huge at the time, looking back now I really don't blame them! I measured small throughout and had fortnightly scans towards the end to check on amniotic liquor levels (low but within normal parameters) and growth. DD1 was hardly waif-like at 8lbs8 :)

I measured small again with DD2 although I had a much better sticky-out bump (stomach muscles obv gone!), but people were still shocked at how far along I was, had more growth scans, she was a pretty hefty 9lbs10... :)

Now 28wks pg with DC3, proper but neat bump this time, and people still have some comment to make, a real mix of people thinking bump is tiny/huge for 6mths pg! I think they just like to talk about bumps because it's such a wonderful, exciting thing to be pg :) Try not to worry too much, if your midwife is at all concerned she will refer you for an additional scan, which is lovely as it's a long time between seeing baby at your 20wk scan until baby arrives.

datingthedevil · 03/09/2012 01:29

Thank you all. I feel better now! I'm 5 ft 7 so not that tall.
I'm sure he will grow quickly later x

Before I went on maternity leave, I constantly had people saying how huge I was. Then, I went to a wedding reception, and as we were leaving, a woman started talking to me, and said, " I have to ask, but are you pregnant?" I'm 37 weeks!!! (think she was a bit drunk though)

With DD1, I went for my 38 week appointment but had a different midwife from normal, and when she looked at my notes to see how many weeks pregnant I was, she was shocked. She said that she would have guessed at 25 weeks. Was hardly reassuring! But my bump was actually measuring fine, and DD1 was born at 39+6, weighing 6lb 15oz.

My SIL had a tiny, neat bump, but her son was 8lb 6oz.

As others have said, you probably have nice, tight tummy muscles! Please try not to worry. Bumps really do come in all different shapes and sizes.

Mandinga79 · 03/09/2012 08:41

I never had much of a bump at any point. Nobody actually noticed I was pregnant until I was 30 weeks gone. I'm five ft six and normally a size 8, so everyone assumed I was having a minnow. Baby was 9lb 2in at birth and 55cm. My husband decided I was part-Tardis. PS I was also back in the pre-pregnancy jeans a week after birth. Don't know if this is a major advantage common to small bumps since you don't expand much...?
