You'll all think I'm nuts but having an attack of paranonia which is completely out of character for me, I leant forward to pick something up from the opposite footwell of my car, tummy made a funny popping, I'm 33 weeks pregnant, is it possible to break/damage an unborn child by learning to far forward at the wrong angle?

I am pretty certain that you can't break a baby by leaning forward...

Have you felt the normal type of kicking since? Any other pain?

preggersshock · 31/08/2012 19:57

Nope, no pain and have felt her move Smile. Just being overly pregnant and paranoid, thanks for the reassurance x

I get this sometimes, I've assumed it's the noise of my severely squashed stomach/guts squidging around when I bend awkwardly.

backwardpossom · 31/08/2012 20:09

It was probably wind [;)]

backwardpossom · 31/08/2012 20:09

Er, Wink I mean!

Glad it's no just me, that's whatsoever! I immediately thought shit, I've broken her arm, why think the best when you can think the worst, lol! Blush

I think it's meant to be like a balloon filled with water. So if you imagine trying to squash something in a water filled balloon you wouldn't be able to. It would keep moving away from your squishing. Does that make sense? That's my understanding anyway, although I still get worried when I lie on my side his limb will get caught or something.

I fell on my bump at 31 weeks. I was getting out of the bath and slipped sideways and cracked the bump and my ribcage onto the side of the bath.

I had my 32 week appointment anyway 3 days later, and as I felt the baby move plenty in between, I didn't worry too much (after the initial shock).

I got to my 32 week appointment, lay back to have the bump measured, and all the smiling and chatting stopped. I was measured three times by two different midwives, and then sent up to have an immediate scan.
I have never been so guilty and scared. Turns out the baby had dropped since the last check and the bump had decreased in size as a result.
Which was all well and good until I went to the 36 week check and the bump was smaller again. Cue another emergency scan. In fact (as I just posted on another thread) my placenta was slowly failing and i was losing fluid.

When I very tearfully 'confessed' to the midwife at the 32 week check,as she measured and re-measured me) that I had fallen and not told anyone (and should I hand the baby over to social services as soon as it was born or could I have a quick cuddle first! - over-dramatising for effect but you get the drift) she said it was extremely unlikely that the fall would have done any damage.
I asked again, several different people, after the 36 week scare, as I wondered if the fall could have damaged the placenta, and they all said the same thing. No. Not that falls aren't dodgy, but that babies are far more resilient, and better padded and protected, than we realise.

DD was indeed born perfectly healthy with no broken limbs or odd bruising.

So if I failed to damage my infant by falling on her heavily and using her to cushion the weight of my body hitting the bath, you are unlikely to have done any damage at all by bending over. I did learn one vital thing however - buy a bathmat.
