Where is hot and where is not. Online stores worth checking out. High street stores worth visiting. Good for petites. Good for giantesses. Second hand e-bay bargains - worthwhile? Views and reviews of the maternity gear you have bought.. all for the benefit of everyone who is desperately looking.

M&S have a navy military wool style maternity coat that looks quite nice and is £49.50. Sleeves came up short on me but for most people I think it would be fine.

carrielou2007 · 23/09/2012 18:04

I took the H and M coat back today, was just what u was after but then today it is tipping it down and it is cotton and I walk everywhere - so not much use for md really! I didn't think there was that much growing room either, I had if in 10-12.

As for pants Blush I'm really struggling as I'm a thing girl, hate vpl, had maternity things when expecting dd and ds can't find any this time!! Went to Morbercard to get their brazillian knickers no d in thd shop (huge store in Bristol). I found just buying bigger normal pants no good as they would literally fall off at thd back s c roll down at thd front not a good look Grin

theTramp · 23/09/2012 18:16

Biggest prob with cheaper coats is quality & warmth. I'd say look at swing coats as they should work during and after but not sure how in they are this year. Looks like lots of military style everywhere.

Candy - that coat is gorgeous. Keep eyes peeled for a good discount on it maybe?

Have just come across this great thread.I am only 7+2 but i will need a coat asap if the weather stays as it is.I will be pregnant throughout the winter so may as well invest in a maternity coat.

Has anyone bought anything from Jojo maman Bebe they have two purple coats on there that look quite nice. However,im not sure if they will be too short as bump gets bigger.

theTramp · 23/09/2012 18:18

BNM - jojomamatambien way too short for me, but Im 6th and am having that prob in lot of places. Why not buy & try?

theTramp · 23/09/2012 18:18

I just bought this coat and I think it'll be great for winter, lots of growing room and has cosy sleeves.

BeauticianNotMagician · 23/09/2012 18:34

thetramp Im only 5ft 2 so maybe wont be too short for me.

Kelerina that coat is gorgeous but i think would have the opposite problem and that would be too long for me.

Kelerina · 23/09/2012 18:37

It is pretty long actually! Clothes shopping is sooooo hard!!!

theTramp · 23/09/2012 18:40

BNM - worth giving it a go.

If we're in for a proper cold winter & my short bump friendly coats no good then sod it I'm buying the thickest, longest bump friendly coat I can. IO stuff seems to hold it's value well based on eBay so resell markets there.

EBay may be worth a look for coats too.

Thanks for views on the parkas!

Carrie was it the H&M parka you took back? Because non-waterproof cotton rules it out for me! Shame as it is a good price.

Still considering the ASOS one - zigwig I also like the fluffy hood but from the pics it doesn't seem to fit as neatly as the H&M one... a bit sack like.

Kelerina that is lovely. I am Envy - a proper wool coat would be pointless with my current lifestyle!

Tramp that is a good point about ebay.

BeauticianNotMagician · 24/09/2012 12:29

Has anyone bought anything from mamalicous. There coats actually look quite nice.

bonzo77 · 24/09/2012 13:36

just seen this thread, and haven't read all of it, but was excited to see some retailers I'd not yet come across.

This morning I went to Seraphine. I bought their cropped leggings. I am not only a short arse at 5 ft 2, but also have short legs 29" inside leg. These are absolutely the perfect length for me (just above my ankle), very comfy (they are not quite over the bump but not quite under), really soft, seamless and not see through.

their knitwear seems a bit thin, but as quite a lot of us get hot too easily when pregnant, it makes sense, is flattering and good for layering. this is nice on, had a good neck line, and on me is sort of mid thigh rather than mini in length.

Anyone else finding jeans falling down? My dorothy perkins ones are hopeless, my old top shop ones from last time are tolerable, but boot leg so I've gone off them. I got some H&M ones, which are marginally better, but I need to take them up. Actually, I'm not going to bother getting any more, I've got 15 weeks to go (ish), and leggings are more comfortable. I'll probably ebay the DP ones, skinny, one pair royal blue another navy. Both labeled a size 8 but I am the large end of a size 10 and they are big, so would suit someone who normally wears a 12. The royal blue ones seem softer and a bit bigger than the navy, but I think that's the difference between darker and lighter dyes.

JoJo Maman et Bebe do this which interests me, as it will work post birth too, though it has no hood and is not waterproof. It's a shame they don't do something similar with a hood and a shower proof coating, it would be so much more useful, ideal for school runs, dog walking etc.

theTramp · 24/09/2012 13:47

Bonzo - someone else bought that fleece & was saying positive things. There seems to be a gap in the Market for decent maternity coats & knitwear - hey not all pregnant ladies overheat sone of us are sleeping in jumpers already.

Yes to Jean slippage. I'm waiting for larger bump then I'm away to buy an over bump brand I think.

LimeLeafLizard · 25/09/2012 14:02

bonzo I've noticed that Jojo fleece too, but have ruled it out for the reasons you said.

My best mat jeans for not falling down are H&M overbump skinnys and an old pair of Next underbump bootcut (but I don't wear them so much because skinny jeans go better with current selection of tops).

The cheap New Look ones which fit and look great are doing my head in because they fall down ALL THE TIME!

theTramp · 25/09/2012 17:49

ladies, I noticed in John Lewis today that Phase 8 have a few coats that would be bump friendly.

There were also loads of long shawl and waterfall type knitwear which would keep you toasty and be bump friendly.

So the next time there is a money off event at John Lewis head to the nearest one to you and stock up.

By the way, I popped into John Lewis oxford St briefly today because someone on here mentioned they had a good maternity range. Bollocks they do. Nothing in store and looking at the online stuff it is all Seraphine. I was most unimpressed.

Anyone got any opinions on maternity dungarees? Work involves uniform so that's taken care of, but home involves dog walking and renovating a freezing cold house at weekends and I'm going to be pregnant over winter. I know they look pretty 1980s but they also seem practical, and the occasions for which I want them aren't occasions on which I will care in the slightest what I look like as long as I'm comfortable.

SilverSixpence · 27/09/2012 16:18

hmm not a fan of the look but have seen a couple of other pregnant women in them. I think i would find them impractical considering how much I need to pee!

SilverSixpence · 27/09/2012 16:18

theTramp I am in love with the second (cocoon) coat!

Fletch1 · 27/09/2012 16:23

Maternity clothes have been the bain of my life! I'm a size 6-8 usually and really struggling to get clothes to fit me. New Look seems to be pretty good although I find the waistbands a little to big o the jeans.

When I was pregnant with DD1 I bought majority of clothes from Next but their sizes are ridiculous now - everything I have tried on has looked like a sack :(

Everywhere seems to be making the clothes bigger all over rather than just around the bump area.

I have a few outfits from New Look and Gap and the rest of the time I wear leggings and tunnic style tops.

WeatherWitch · 27/09/2012 16:25

Silver - hadn't considered the peeing issue, good point well made. Leggings it is then.
