Headaches in early pregnancy

Looking at a couple of other threads I think I may have an answer to this, but I'll ask anyway.

I am 7 weeks pregnant with DC2. For the last week I have had an almost constant headache.
The first time around, I was nauseous and sick and tired but didn't have headaches. This time, I have all that plus the additional gift of a pounding head. It wakes me up in the night, and I think I'm keeping paracetomol companies going, I'm buying so much of the stuff.
Is this normal? I do suffer from headaches and migraines even when I'm not pregnant, to the extent that before DC1 I was on daily medication (the pill), not as a contraceptive but to control the headaches. After she was born I seemed to get better but now....
Normally, they are triggered by hormones, tiredness, hunger and thirst. Now, I just can't get rid of them.

Is it part and parcel of some pregnancies? Or should I phone a midwife and check? (I have my booking in appointment in 2 weeks, so I can always wait and mention it then).

Advice please.

I suffered terribly with this pregnancy until over 20 weeks. The only thing that shifted them wasco-codamol. Hope they stop for you soon, but yes it is most prob very normal. Talk to GP if you're worried or wantto know more about pain relief.

yes headaches are normal, especially if you were already a sufferer

don't underestimate how much you should be drinking though, esp with the recent muggy weather

It is all hormonal in the early stages. I had it with one pregnancy, but not the other, and it settled after 12 weeks. However, mention it to your MW and/or GP just in case. Hope it gets better. Congrats too!

I posted about this recently, I have a permanent headache at the moment, have been taking paracetamol but don't like to take too much. I think it's just part and parcel to be honest, I have a midwife appointment next week so will mention it then

I've been having these with vomiting and blurry vision since 6 weeks, it's been hell! I'm 11w now and they have definatley started calming down thankfully Smile

I had terrible headaches this pregnancy up until 8 or 9 weeks, then they just stopped. They are very common around that time due to the hormone surge in early pregnancy. If you drank tea and coffee prior to getting pregnant and have cut down since, the caffeine withdrawal effect can also add to headaches. Make sure you drink plenty of water and keep well-hydrated. Paracetamol did nothing for me, but thankfully they didn't last too long. Hope yours are better soon! x

Do
Mention to MW sooner rather than later because whilst generally just about hormones they can be sign of other things - thats a rare occurrence though. Or so said my MW when I mentioned hit on back of head with shovel feeling headaches

It's nice to know that lots of people have this.

Tramp - would you phone them do you think? I've yet to meet any of the community midwives and was going to wait until my booking in appt in two weeks.

Yes phone. It's 99% hormones but let them know they're bad & paracetamols not helping much - if nothing else you'll get some slightly stronger pills.
