Not sure if this is the right place to ask so feel free to direct me elsewhere!

Need sheets and blankets for baby and not sure where to go.

We have an uppababy vista that we are going to use instead of a moses basket. Reviews of their sheets say they are rubbish as they shrink however carefully you wash them.

Then a cotbed (mattress size 400)

Where is the best place to get half decent sheets / blankets that don't cost the earth but will survive regular washing?

I would not recommend using the carrycot of your pram for overnight sleeping but it is fine for naps in the day. I don't have the same pram, but I have found fitted pram/moses sheets from the supermarket or matalan have been just fine for the pram, they are very cheap too. I have had no issues regarding the washing of the sheets.
I have only got supermarket celllular blankets and they are also doing fine, but I haven't needed to wash them that much due to using a swaddler and then gro-bags at night. sleeping bags are easier and possibly safer than blankets.

Thanks for the advice, we were thinking supermarket would be ok but I got confused once I started googling!

Have got some sleeping bags that I was going to use at night but thought I had better get some blankets for during the day.

Can I ask why not to use the carrycot? The vista particularly said the carrycot and mattress was suitable for overnight sleeping.

Again, another one who would suggest checking whether the carrycot is supposed to be used for overnight sleeping - some say they can be in the instructions, some don't say (which means they arent).

Bedding wise - use a pillowcase over the mattress, and wrap baby in a large muslin swaddle sheet. Job done. I also had one 'pram blanket' for outdoors.

I did buy a cellular blanket, but its still folded up in DDs bedroom unused (she is 8mo). At about 4mo she outgrew her swaddle and went into a GroBag.

I bought two moses basket sheets (to use as well as pillowcases) and two cotbed sheet. Got mine from Asda. Also, another tip would be to put sheet on the mattress, and lay a muslin where the babys head goes so if they spit up in the night, you just need ot swap the muslin for a fresh one rather than change the whole bed.

ahh xpost, well, if they say it is suitable, then it is Grin some are, some arent.

KatAndKit · 31/08/2012 12:06

Definitely yes to the muslin tip! I did this and it really does cut down on washing the sheets. You do need a nice stash of cheap white muslins but you are likely to be using muslins anyway.

Lilliana · 31/08/2012 12:23

Have bought muslins already so will definately follow that tip, thanks.

Sounds like the ASDA ones will be fine so going to order some before I change my mind again.

We did have a moses basket offered but thought we could save some ££ by not having to buy a new mattress for it (especially as from family history I am expecting baby to be big and not need it that long!) Do you think it would be worth it for peace of mind?

I think it would be worth it for convenience especially if it is free. The new mattresses are only a tenner on ebay. Then you can use the carrycot downstairs for day naps and the moses upstairs for night sleeps without having to move stuff up and down the stairs. I found this strategy helpful anyway. As I say, my baby is 4 1/2 months and still fits in a moses at 15 pounds.

I must surely win the award for the least amount of money spent on my babies.

I bought them 2 cot sheets each for 10 pounds (for all 4)
2 fleece pram blankets for about 6 quid each
2 cellular blankets - about 8 pounds each
All from ASDA

MIL has knitted them some lovely little blankets too.

Lilliana · 31/08/2012 12:57

Might be worth thinking about then KatandKit, thanks I didn't realise you could get them so cheaply.

Grin gardenpixies, a lady after my own heart. We have some nice knitted blankets too.
