Please excuse me if I sound crazy but should you moisturise a baby's face and body. If so, what with please?

Not unless prescribed for skin condition eg eczema.

Baby's skin is very delicate. Lots of potions aren't good for it. You genuinely don't need anything but warm water for months (unless nappy rash hits or above-mentioned skin conditions).

HTH. And panic not - it was a perfectly reasonable question. Johnson & Johnson would have you believe your child is Deprived if it isn't reeking of their products.

Used and still do E45 lotion (not the cream, the lotion is really light stuff like milk). It's suitable for eczema etc but we just use it as a simple every day moisturiser. DD's skin got quite dry during winter.

My son is 2yo and I still don't use any products on him except a gentle baby wash on his very stinky feet during the summer. As Horatio says, their skin is very delicate and it's best to go au naturel as long as possible unless they suffer from a dry skin condition.

You can also use olive oil for dry skin on the body but best to avoid on face and hands.

if the cream is for eczema ie e45 then fine use it, i learnt my lesson big time by putting cream on my son as he had dry skin also using soaps ie johnson and johnson which caused him to develop really bad baby eczema. had a long talk with doctor who said if its for badly dry skin you can use aqueous cream as this is water based unfragrenced and wont affect him other than helping the dry skin never used any products on any of my other children till 6 months old and no skin problems with them oh other than sudo cream for nappy rash

My DS's facial skin was really dry and used to peel. I was told by the HV that any natural oil was fine to use - olive oil, rapeseed oil etc. I used rapeseed as I found olive oil made him smell like chips! I wouldn't have used anything if he didn't peel though and it wasn't long before the oil addressed the imbalance and I didn't need to use it.

My DS had flaky skin as a newborn too, particularly on his legs and ankles. Olive oil worked wonders and he loved his little massages. He did smell good enough to eat but I quite liked that Blush Grin
