High level of amniotic fluid-worried

Hoping some of you can help put my mind at ease...

Been measuring 5 weeks ahead of EDD for many weeks now. Currently 36 weeks and had another growth scan yesterday. My notes indicate largest pocket of fluid is 13cm which according to google investigations (my own fault I know!) implies I have moderate Polyhydramnios (although no-one at the hospital has actually said this). I have been told by the midwife that the baby is very large (+95%) so that's probably what's causing excess fluid. My Glucose test came back negative so not diabetes.

However, when I met the consultant yesterday she said at next weeks appointment I was to be prepared to stay in hospital until my section date incase my waters break and I suffer a cord prolapse. She said this was due to the large volume of amniotic fluid I'm carrying.

So, stupidly I googled levels last night and seen that they are indeed high and read all the things (other than big baby) that can cause it. I'm now worried sick something is wrong with the baby.

Has anyone else had a similar situation?

I had polyhydramnios in both my pregnancies. I had loads of extra scans and blood tests to see if is was caused by a foetal anomaly and/or an infection in me. It was neither.

The vast vast vast majority of the time (I'm repeating for emphasis so you don't worry!) There is no known cause for excess amniotic fluid. When it was diagnosed the consultant told me NOT to Google it .... Which I of course did and like you I was extremely worried. Both my DCs are healthy and I'm pg with DC3. I will probably have polyhydramnios in this pregnancy too, apparently some women just have an overactive amnion.

Please try not to worry. Good luck with your delivery (be prepared for lots of gushing when your waters break!)
