Headaches-Pregnancy related??

Hi ladies, I am 14 weeks tomorrow and have a permanent headache, plus being exhausted. I know we can take paracetamol but I really don't want to be taking it all the time, how much do you think is ok? Once a day? Less that that? I know paracetamol advice is not more than 8 in 24 hours but that seems like loads to a little tiny baby........I am trying to drink loads so i'm not dehydrated, anything else I can do to shift the headaches?

Also when will this tiredness lift??? I feel utterly useless!

I suffered migraines early on in my pregnancy with DD2 and the only thing that helped was to cut out caffeine. So no tea or coffee etc.

Hopefully yours will shift soon. Smile

No advice really, but I had horrible headaches around 14 weeks that have now nearly completely eased off at 16 weeks.

Maybe have a cup of tea or coffee my dr said that sometimes a little bit of caffeine can really help.

How's you diet? I found that junk food was making my headaches worse.

I hope it gets better soon. I know what a pain headaches can be.

Meant to add if it's tension achy headaches then try caffeine, if it's migraines avoid it like the plague!

If you have headaches it's important to talk to your midwife about them. She'll be able to advise you about painkillers, and also she'll check your blood pressure. If you have any other symptoms- any migraine like visual disturbance or any signs of fluid retention, take them seriously. It's certainly nothing, but you do need to be aware of the remote, impossibly small chance of pre eclampsia. Please don't worry, but be vigilant.

Thanks all, they're definitely not as bad as migraines, just there all the time, I can still function at work but just fall into bed when I get home!

I was a tea addict pre pregnancy but have cut down to one or two cups per day, no coffee at all so maybe nothing to do with caffine?

Maybe will try cutting it out altogether and see what happens though, am seeing midwife next week so will ask her then, thanks!

I had this and found it was because I was forgetting to drink! Are you drinking enough? I now keep a drink on the side permanently and refill it throughout the day. I've not had a headache for ages. Hope it gets better soon. A pregnancy vitamin supplement might help with the tiredness but generally the first trimester is tiring because your body is so busy, it should ease off a bit when the placenta takes over - although with DC1 I was tired the whole way through (overweight) - this time it eased around 14 weeks and came back around 30!

I'm so stupid, I clearly didn't read your post properly.. Baby brain!

Kelerina · 30/08/2012 08:36

Thanks, I think i'm drinking enough but that could be because I need to pee every five bloody minutes! It's a vicious cycle! Will start keeping a bottle of water beside me at all times and see if that helps, I could just be underestimating how much i'm drinking as so much of it was tea before but no more!

I'm nearly 16weeks and always have headaches atm :( midwife said it's quite normal!!

PollyIndia · 30/08/2012 09:10

I also got loads of headaches early on. Not had one for months now though.
Caffeine was definitely a trigger I seem to remember

sleepyhead · 30/08/2012 09:12

Paracetamol is totally safe to use in pregnancy at the normal dose (and as advised by your midwife/GP), but have you tried those 4Head headache sticks? I know a couple of people who say they work really well for them.

Loueytb3 · 30/08/2012 09:14

I had to drink vast quantities of water to stop the headaches - it was definitely dehydration causing mine. It felt like I was permanently drinking but it did work. So I would suggest drinking more even if it means going to the loo more frequently. They should ease off soon hopefully

Aren't they awful? With DS1 i suffered horrific migraines for the first trimester, non with DS2 and Ive had a few bad headaches and migraines with this one. I think alot of it is hormonal but like the others have said keep a check on your vision and if your hands and feet go puffy.

Being sat in the fresh air helped with acold flannel on my head or lying in a dark room with the window open.

Hope you're ok.
