Just wondering if anyone elsehas read Katy Bowman's stuff, on Aligned and Well website. She's a biomechanist who advocates squatting, wearing completely flat shoes and walking a lot and says that lots of pelvic and back problems come from our limited rangeof movement and chronically tight muscles. I started trying to follow her advice this time last year and am now 8 wks pg. Am interested to see if it's makes a difference as I had PGP with first pg, came on during second trimester, and with second, started at 9wks. Anyone else?

Yes, I like her stuff. And am just experiencing the spd/pgp coming back, am 13 weeks in to 2nd pregnancy. Am off to specialist osteopath today to check alignment before I start the strengthening exercises again after 7 weeks off with nausea/exhaustion.

Where's your specialist osteopath? And what exercises do you do? I had an antenatal physio and exercises with DD but we have moved since and when I hada referral last year to physio here they called and just said 'oh, you'll need a belt then and that's probably all we can do'!! Bit shocking as there is a lot more, manual adjustment, exercises, as you say. So am wanting to did other approaches if they're going to be similar this time.

Tunbridge Wells - website's a bit odd-looking but the osteopathy's excellent, esp for spd/pgp, worth travelling for: www.osteopath-tunbridge-wells.co.uk.

I do these exercises

That's great, thank you so much. I am starting to have little twinges now myself, so beginning to be more careful how I move. The exercises look good, and we are in South London, so Tunbridge Wells not too far away if things do get worse. Thanks again, I hope you manage to keep it at bay, and the nausea and exhaustion. Doesn't sound like you need any more!

I dont know Katy Bowman, but I had SPD moderate to bad from 20 wks in my 1st pregnancy and this I am largely untroubled and I am now 33 weeks.

I had twinges at 9 wks and immediately went back to the hospital obstetric physio. I also have an excellent private physio for whom this is his specialist area and also a osteopath who also specialising treating pregnant women and children. I haven't had to see the last two this time, but what I learned first time around has really helped me, certain positions and exercises etc. For me keeping my pelvis correctly aligned is key, it tends to go out and then the pain, the hosp physio has 'put them back in place' a few times. Also I think having a memory foam topper has helped this time and staying more active. I would have laughed at the staying active bit first time around as I couldn't even use the accelerator in the car without pain, but I think not working so much (desk based job) has helped as I think sitting all day was putting pressure on my pelvis. I also go with the flat shoes.

My thought is that SPD/PGP has different causes/triggers for everyone which makes it so hard to get support as many don't acknowledge or understand it, but I definitely feel 'wise' to my particular problems this time and I can hardly believe how mobile I have stayed, i kind of expected to be disabled long before now.

I have the pilates in pregnancy NCT dvd which is excellent and a rec from my obstetric physio, when I feel I have caught myself badly and have pain moving, I do this and it seems to often realign me without having to see anyone.
