Does everyones boobs head south after having children?

That's the question, there was a post on here about sacrifices people had made for their kids and the most popular one was going from nice pert boobs to saggy, floppy, spaniels ears with massive nipples.

Does this happen to everyone? Is it linked to whether you breastfeed or not? Do they really look THAT bad? Is there anything to prevent/minimise it?

I know it sounds terribly vain but my boobs are the only part of my body I like!

I didn't breastfeed so can't comment on that but my boobs went from massive, pre-pregnancy, to ginormous, during pregnancy, back to massive-and-now-pointing-south-with-sag-lines post-pregnancy.

Oh, and I didn't gain much weight during pregnancy so I'm pretty sure it's genetics (damn you mother!) in my case rather than weight gain.

Mine did deflate a lot after I stopped breastfeeding but have plumper up again, though not as pert as they were. Never were my best asset though.

I breast fed 3 DCs and they just went back to what they were- they were however small to start with.

DioneTheDiabolist · 29/08/2012 22:29

Yes and no.

After breastfeeding my puppies emigrated to my navel. They stayed there for a while, lazily lopping like spaniel's ears for a while. Then they decided to move back of their own accord.

I am now the proud owner of a pair or 36c breasts that can hold their own when necessary but prefer support.

BionicEmu · 30/08/2012 08:44

Mine were the same after DC1 as they were before. But I was a 36H before, got up to 36K straight after birth.

They've been pointing down since I was about 18. Never mind a pencil, I can keep a whole pencil case up there!

Now 18 weeks pregnant with DC2 and am currently a 36J. Dreading finding a bra to fit if they get much bigger!

I'm not a fan of cosmetic surgery but I think once babies are over & done with if there's significant saggage then a boob lift is a perfectly reasonable thing to add to your wish list. It may well be vain, but as your children benefited from you selflessly allowing them to use your breasts as food pumps - only fair.

I'm on baby no 1 & 11 weeks, so clearly not an expert :)

No nothings inevitable.Hasnt happened to me at all.

Kelbells · 30/08/2012 09:01

I'm 34 with pre pregnancy 32ff boobs, they've already started heading south so I don't have much hope for them after swelling to 36GG and planning to bf for at least 6 months!!

My mum though, bf 2 children for a year each and has the most amazing pert boobs at 62! Envy

I think it's all down to genes and luck... Just wish I'd got my mum's!!!

RedBlanket · 30/08/2012 09:01

Mine are the same size and shape as before (bf twins for a year).
They are a bit lower down than they used to be but i think thats more to do with the size/weight of them than pg and bf
A lift isn't on my wish list, but I'd have a reduction tomorrow if I could.

TruthSweet · 30/08/2012 09:03

This shows the changes pg does to breasts (and the prep for pg). Obviously the external changes may not be so noticeable in every woman but the internal ones will happen regardless of intention to bf (or actually bfing)

TheHappyCamper · 30/08/2012 09:05

Mine are 34B and didn't grow at all during my pregnancy. I was most disapointed at the time Hmm. I suppose the upside is that now they are exactly the same as they were before - small but perky. I can go without a bra with strappy tops etc and be comfortable. I'm not sure about the dark nipples thing as I never had that!

(I only BF for 3 days - it didn't go very well)

Maybe it's a bit genetic like stretchmarks? Perhaps you can watch your weight, wear good bras etc but for some women their boobs are always going to change and for others they could do what they like with no change in boobs? Who knows.

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 30/08/2012 09:18

Overall, mine are much the same as pre babies. Were temporarily a bit deflated for a few months then plumped up again. Nips not turned brown, I fed one for 3 months and the second for 2 years. Apart from CS scars my body hasn't really changed. TBF I already had a flabby belly with overhang before I had children though Grin

debdee · 30/08/2012 09:22

Not inevitable but mine changed. Started off before 1st pg 32d, went to 34g then down to 32e once back to pre pg weight.2nd went to 34g again boobs staye at 32f afterwards. This time back to g already, god knows what they'll be like in the end. BF both & nowhere near as pert as they used to be but not awful & the only person who needs to know this is yourself & partner, they look awesome in a good bra ;)
