Morning ladies!

I'm struggling with the not eating prawns, love them! Was wondering if anyone still ate them during pregnancy? I'm out for my Birthday at the weekend also and would love some grilled prawns! :(

Deli meat is fine and prawns are fine hot or cold, just defrost the prawns carefully and if your eating out ask how fresh they are or check their hygiene certificate.

I have eaten salami all the way through all 4 pregnancies and all is fine as is other cured deli meat and fish. Cured is as good as cooking, the NHS has no problems with deli meat although the website says other countries are unsure or words to that affect.

I have even eaten the odd steak and kidney pie, and rare steak and soft egg by mistake and as long as you don't eat them all the time and are careful about where they came from I think all is fine.

Literally just went to waitrose and bought three bags of cocktail salami - am delighted with that!

Happy to go with what the NHS says - my book is perhaps american? I was also feeling guilty about eating loads of prosciutto while unaware of being pregnant, but turns out there was no need!

Oh god! What is wrong with steak and kidney pie?

(Not that I eat them much, just curious)

Its just the offal, and the fact that kidney cleans out the waste products, its sort of the prawn being the bottom feeder thing.

I love kidneys to so I just eat less.

I've had prawns I've cooked myself or when eating out at places I trust. Was at a Chinese the other day where they had prawn salad but had been sat under heaters for an unknown amount of time so just opted out of those and other things such as rice etc. I was away on holiday so had no idea of the place's reputation so thought I'd best be on the safe side.

Personally I would not risk it. The reason is that there is a small chance that they are contaminated with either listeria or salmonella. This is increasingly becoming a problem and includes cooked prawns. It seems especially a problem with products which have been vacuum packed.

See this link for more information.

BonaDea the NHS website has been updated, it did used to say no to cured meat.

I went to my parents' last month and said no to the the parma ham my mum had included with melon (I was a bit gutted). Then when she asked the next day if smoked salmon was OK I checked and saw that it said both smoked salmon and parma ham were ok - wish I'd checked the day before!

I did, never occurred to me not to.

Listeria could be in almost anything - prepacked salad is particularly risky. I wouldn't eat a prawn sandwich from a dodgy-looking deli where I'd never been before, but I'd definitely eat them if I was cooking them myself or in a place I trusted.

When I go to heaven, I am only going to eat prawns and ice cream!
