Could this be symphysis pubis pain?

I did my back in on Sunday, called GP yesterday & am now on 6 week waiting list for urgent maternity physio (yes, really!). It was just typical lower back pain so I carried on as normal yesterday at work & tried to keep moving through the pain as best I could. But - last night - ow, ow, ow! My hips were burning. So painful but not in the groin area of my pelvis - the pain started on my outer hips and then radiated round the front into a stabbing pain where my c-section scar is. It then started radiated down the outside of my thighs and into my knees and feet.

I know very little about SPD but am aware that the worst thing I can do if it is that is to move through the pain. But equally I realise that if it is back pain then I need to keep moving. Aargh!

Any advice or experience appreciated - thanks!

It sounds like it might be trapped nerves from your back?

6 weeks!!!! That is terrible. How many weeks pregnant are you? I have it severe and am pretty immobile right now. The pain is like someone has kicked you right between the legs very hard, it is painful or impossible to pull your legs apart, I do get a burning sensation in my inner thighs also and my left side is twisted out of place due to the severity so my left leg/hip/thigh is very painful. The pain is all specifically around the pubic area / pelvis but of course the hobbling around and using crutches has now given me pains in other areas of my back. I would keep chasing that physio appointment if I was you. 6 weeks is a long time to wait when you are carrying a heavier load around each day x

Am only 19 weeks right now so a long time ahead! That sounds awful kellyjane but am not getting any groin symptoms at all, which makes me think it can't be SPD so maybe a nerve is trapped like Fluffy suggests. Am just petrified of what damage I could potentially do to myself by doing the wrong thing while waiting for physio!

I am not surprised you are! I would definately want to speak to one in the meantime for some advice etc. I am off to see my consultant today about the pain as it is not under control at all am at the end of my tether. I really hope that you feel better soon and get an appointment through x

ps if you can manage it maybe you could get a private consultation in the mean time. I know it is an expense you shouldn't have to fork out though its about £30 - £40 x

Sounds more like pelvic girdle pain rather than SPD. Its a similar thing but in a different place. I was unlucky and got both :(

Go back to the GP and tell him its getting worse and you think its pregnancy related and you would like an urgent referral. Don't know if I was just lucky but I was seen within the week

Thanks. Unfortunately 6 weeks is an urgent appt (I know! Crazy!). Have left a message on the physio answer phone so hoping they will even call me back and give me some over the phone advice.
