For those of you with other children, can you think of a good present for a 1 year old? I've seen a coat in Baby Gap which I will get if all else fails but wanted to think of something more interesting than that as it's my niece and she's ace.

So thought I'd canvas opinion here.

Thanks!

I loved a cloth book (with all different tactile things going on with the story) that somebody bought when my then baby was 1. He is 12 now and I still remember how that was the best gift ever.

It let me read to him without feeling like a plonker, cos he was very involved in feeling up all the pages. And the crinkly bits made him giggle.

I would have also been dead chuffed with any clothes in the next size up, seriously expensive this clothing a "rapidly growing human" stuff.

I like a Brio pull-along dog. The small one for about a tenner so you can shove it in your bag when necessary, when they don't want to pull them any more. You can get them from amazon.

My girls were both given dolls and little pushchairs for their first birthdays, and the presents are still being used pretty much everyday (DD1 is 3.9 and DD2 is 2.1). Dolly pushchairs are great for encouraging almost-but-not-quite-steady walkers, and the dolls are obv great for feeding etc. Don't bother with dolls clothes though as a 1yo doesn't have the dexterity yet to dress it themselves.
Clothes for your niece are also a great idea - pretty but everyday stuff goes down very well, better than very fancy/expensive clothes that only get worn once or twice, imo! HTH :)

My ds turned one in June and the best present he received was one of those personalised story books. You get them on line I think. It's something he can keep and unusual too. He also had a smart trike which he loves, but that depends how much you want to spend! Smile

My nan bought a personalised story book for DD's first birthday. It made me get teary, DD loved being read to, and I think she'll enjoy hearing a story about 'her' as she gets older too. It also makes a nice keepsake. Definitely my favourite present she received Smile
