Infantino baby carrier?

My sister has given me an infantino baby carrier, I think it's called Eurorider. Does anyone have any experience of this? I didn't use a sling/carrier with ds but plan to use one this time (27 weeks pregnant).

Hi ijust. I know that Infantino had one of their slings recalled in the US, I think it was called the slingrider, because it was linked to several infant deaths. The slings that have a rigid base and are gathered at the sides are considered to be potentially dangerous because they can hold the baby in a position where their chin is tucked to their chest, so they can't breathe properly, and also they restrict air circulation within the sling.

The Sling guide website is good on what to look for in a sling:

www.slingguide.co.uk/

Especially the TICKS checklist. They also have a warning against 'bag style' slings:

There's an area in Products called Slings and backpacks or something where you could ask about different types of slings. The Natural Mamas forum is also very good, but people there are properly obsessed, so can be a bit overwhelming! I hope I find something safe and that you like.

I just checked out the sling you've got, its more like a baby bjorn, isn't it? Looks fine to me, but you could probably find something that would last longer in terms of carrying when your baby's heavy, and which would be more comfortable for both of you. Maybe a soft structured carrier? There's more info on that first site I posted, under Types of sling. Good luck!

First message should say 'I hope YOU find something...' sorry.

I hear bad reviews of baby bjorn on here all the time, so if the eurorider is like that that I presume it won't be great. I did notice it doesn't have a strap for around my waist, and I have heard that the waist strap helps alot in distributing the baby's weight so she won't feel so heavy.

I never had a baby bjorn, but we were given something similar and I just couldn't work out how to put it on so it didn't get used at all. When DD started walking I looked into slings again so I wasn't pushing an empty pushchair around Grin. I ended up using wraps and a ring sling. But I think those soft structured carriers like the Manduca look really good, very quick to put on, holds the baby closer to you than a bjorn style carrier so the weight is better distributed, and you can carry your child on your back when they're bigger if you want to.

There are sling libraries around, where you can go and try out different types and borrow them for a while to see if you get on with them. As a lot of the slings are £70 or more new I think that might be a good way to go before buying one if there's a library near you. I think if you search for 'sling library' there's a site which lists them. Post again with where you are if you have trouble and I can have a look for one near you. Smile

I had a eurorider for DD2 and had no complaints. I didn't use it for full time baby wearing but for short outings, plane journeys etc and it was comfortable enough. It also came with a fleece cover which was really handy for an autumn baby. It's nothing like the one that was recalled AFAIK.

For DD1 I borrowed a baby bjorn - they're quite similar in design but I found the eurorider more comfortable, so I def wouldn't fork out for a BB if you already have the infantino.

ijust you could wait until your LO is born and try the one you've got. It's very easy to get massively into the sling research and end up spending a lot of money! Then if it's not comfy for you you know there are other options out there and you could look for something else then, try out different things with your LO as well. I found it hard to judge with a big bump and no baby!
