Placenta lasagna anyone?

Have any of you eaten your own placenta? I'm thinking of getting mine encapsulated due to massive hormone fluctuations after dc1 and taking a long time to recover.

Is it worth it?

I have no idea but fascinated to know if anyone has had it made into capsules - I'm afraid I wouldnt be fancying the placenta feast approach....

There was a programme on channel 4 earlier this year which showed placenta being made into keepsakes, smoothies and tablets. Can't remember what it was called but quite interesting-also looked at different parenting styles etc.

Oooh I've just emailed a lady to encapsulate my placenta, quite excited. I wonder how they will get it in time or whether I will have to have it stored? Should I take a coolbox to hospital?

She also does smoothies so I might get a smoothie and the capsules, apparently they just taste like fruit? Feel a bit sick thinking about it though.

I'm getting mine encapsulated. It's meant to help with iron levels and mood, both of which concern me. I don't fancy the smoothie though. I believe it could well be a good idea but I couldn't do it. From what I know they come and collect from the hospital/home and you get it back pretty quickly, like a couple of days.

I really want to but I don't think we can afford to do so as we don't have anyone in our area we need to pay fuel as well?
Do you mind if I ask what sort of prices you are looking at?

seabuckthorn · 26/08/2012 21:49

I was quoted £175

I haven't got the info to hand at the moment, but I do recall it being in that kind of region.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 27/08/2012 07:28

I think around £200 here.

It's too expensive for us to get someone to encapsulate my placenta, but DH and my doula are going to prepare some raw placenta smoothies for me with berries and the like.

I personally think (however bizarre a meat smoothie sounds) that to get the full benefits you need to consume it raw and within the first few days of birth.
