carry cot question......

Hi am new to mums-net - this is my 3rd pregnancy, my other 2 children are 7 & 8 - baby due Christmas day :)
I have a carry cot question. The pram/travel system i am thinking of buying has a detachable carry cot/pram part so baby can lie flat. Is there any reason why baby cannot sleep in the carry cot detached at night-time in our room? I was thinking if i changed the mattress to a moses basket one then it would be firmer for baby to sleep in?
Thanks :)

im doing the same. not bothering with a moses basket. i think...well i know... theres stands u can use for the carry cot to go on. i dont know where to get them yet though

You just need to check that your particular carrycot is suitable for all night sleeping. I think it's to do with airflow.

My carrycot was fine, and both children slept in it for first 3 months or so. I needed a different mattress for overnight use.

Thats good to know! would the airflow thing be more to do with the mattress then?

Yeah, more whether its breathable so baby doesnt overheat.

I ised Moses Basket at night and the pram carrycot (Maclaren Techno XLR) for all daytime sleeping during the first three.months

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 26/08/2012 17:25

What travel system is it?

I looked at the Uppababy Vista and their carrycot was definitely suitable for night sleeping and you could buy a stand to use with it.

I have bought the Babystyle Oyster which isn't suitable but tbh, we will probably use it if we stay somewhere overnight for only one night in the first months rather than lug the Moses basket with us too.

I can't find any info anywhere on whether it's suitable for overnight sleeping. Sorry Sad

newtonupontheheath · 26/08/2012 18:30

Try posting in the pushchairs section... Tis where the experts hang out Wink

Ps From experience, those that are suitable for overnight sleeping usually say so as it is a selling point for them.

3rdbump · 26/08/2012 19:10

Thanks for that - will try theree! i think the system is french......

My iCandy carrycot is safe for overnight sleeping but cannot go on a stand, must stay on the floor. The staff were very clear on it, the assistant should be able to advise you on it but might be worth double checking with manufacturer depending on the service you receive...

Rockchick1984 · 26/08/2012 20:42

Just had a look, just be aware that it's an incredibly heavy pram at over 15kg...

emsyj · 26/08/2012 20:46

I used my pram carrycot as DD preferred it - it was much wider than the moses basket and she liked having her arms out to the sides. It said in the booklet that came with it that it's safe for overnight sleep, maybe call the shop and ask?

carrielou2007 · 26/08/2012 21:47

Just had a look (closet pramo Blush) looks very like Quinny buzz bug about z third of thd price. I would agree that it would not be suitable for overnight sleeping of it would be mentioned as this would br z big selling point. Very heavy too, buy s suitable mattress, don't put hood up if nighttime sleeping. Think Kiddicare do their own version of the buzz (which is truly terrible) if you are looking for a lesser cost option??
