RANT ALERT:

So, we're doing building work at home at the moment. My bright idea and I am glad we're doing it as it's going to make life with a newborn easier but DH is taking a back seat because he's just so busy at work, he has no time for shopping for radiators or liaising with builders so I'm project managing the whole bloody thing as well as working full-time until 37 weeks, selling all our furniture on ebay and buying replacements and taking care of a willful toddler in my free time.

We have to clear everything (including kitchen cabinets) out of our downstairs by 7pm tomorrow when we move into a hotel for 10 days so the builders can gut and re-do our downstairs. I have nothing for my hospital bag and no baby clothes washed. We need a new car too so DH has been away all day yesterday and today looking at cars so I've been home alone with our two year old. I took him to the park this morning and some nasty big kid pushed him down the slide and he hurt his back and I just started weeping and haven't really stopped since - think this was the straw that broke the donkey's back.

Anyone else bitten off more than they can chew in late pregnancy? Feeling very guilty that my poor baby must be feeling pretty stressed out and knackered too Sad.

Gosh! I'm 34w and fed up of feeling like a blimp, the PGP, hemorrhoids, exhaustion... But reading your post I don't feel I should be complaining!!

Do you have any family or friends that could help you out with a bit of childcare or housework/heavy lifting?

Oh bless you. A few years back we moved house when I was about 3m pregnant, had to redecorate - including putting in a new kitchen and bathroom - before the baby was born. The bathroom went in when I was about 35w; I went on maternity leave at 36w so showered at work for a few days, trying to squeeze my enormous self into the little cubicle! Then I was able to have a bath at home with the rest of the bathroom basically bare, not even curtains on the (luckily frosted) windows, until it was finally finished.

The worst was coming home from work one day to find pretty much everything in the kitchen and living room (and that was a lot of stuff as we hadn't finished putting stuff away properly) covered in horrible sticky plaster dust. I did not need to be wiping dust off half our Worldly possessions at 30 or so weeks pregnant.

Don't worry too much about the effect of the stress on the baby; people give birth in war zones and in 3rd World countries. But try to look after yourself. And it will be great when it's all finished :)
