DH sympathy symptoms, anyone?

Just wondering whether anyone has experienced this. I'm 8 wks with our first, and we're both chuffed to bits but a bit rabbit-in-headlights as it's all happened very quickly. I've been lucky so far; tired and sore but only queasy and not sick at all. Thing is, this week DH (a healthy, pragmatic and attention-shy sort of chap) seems to be mirroring my symptoms in a most uncharacteristic fashion.

So it's probably something he ate, but I'd quite like to think he's reacting to my hormones because a) means there's nothing else wrong, and b) he's so hilariously embarrassed by the idea.

Can this really happen? Would really appreciate any insights or anecdotes!

Dh regularly get sympathetic lower abdomen cramp! (in reality he's usually just done too many sit ups :o )

Badgerina · 25/08/2012 11:53

Badgerina: "oh I'm so tired"
Mr Badgerina: "oh SO AM I"
Badgerina: "wow my back aches"
Mr Badgerina: "so does mine"
Badgerina: "my feet hurt"
Mr Badgerina: "my feet AND my legs hurt"

Angry Angry Angry

Is this the sort of thing you mean? Grin

My DH definitely gets sympathy symptoms. When I'm feeling particularly hormonal it riles me...

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 25/08/2012 16:54

I love your username bumgrapes!

LimesoakedMadeleine · 25/08/2012 18:06

Hmm; definitely not an excess of sit ups, Fluffy, short of a dramatic personality shift; or the lovely desire to be involved you describe, Badgerina - I read him that and he looked very aggrieved Grin. He can certainly whinge but he's quite good at waiting his turn. Does yours get a range of symptoms, Bumgrapes?

He wouldn't dare Lime! If at any point during my 17 weeks of morning sickness hell, he'd used the words "I feel sick/nauseous/unwell..." I'd have hit him with my sick bowl! Perhaps you need to perfect your Hmm face! Grin

DH has put on weight with all three, and has not lost the baby weight inbetween pregnancies. He also is tired, sore back, sore tummy etc! Grr!

Midgetm · 25/08/2012 18:18

With my first child DH swore he had sympathy pains. Sickness and tiredness mainly. He didn't whine about it so he still lives to tell the tale.

Mine certainly had sympathy pains with me in early pregnancy.

Sadly not when I was in labour though Hmm

piggyboo · 25/08/2012 19:55

No sympathy pains here, no real sympathy either Angry

MyLittleMiracles · 25/08/2012 20:05

My Ex got dreadful sympathy symptoms...i mean literally going dizzy puking up He looked like shit warmed up and couldnt face food without being sick. Yep, he suffered dreadfully. He spoke to our doctor about it who laughed and then offered sickness tablets..... Everyone laughed at him,

ZuleikaD · 25/08/2012 20:12

DH had bad sickness for weeks, but it turned out that he had a stomach ulcer.

MissTapestry · 26/08/2012 02:58

My DP was queasy for a while after my sickness stopped. We like to think it was him shouldering some of the burden of being pregnant!

Purplecatti · 26/08/2012 11:05

It's called couvade syndrome, my OH had it for the first four months.
He was adamant he felt he was pregnant too (nausea, swollen tummy, tiredness and we shared swigging from the gaviscon bottle) so I googled it at the time.

I thought it was really funny.

He's a very empathic person bless him

"He's a very empathic person bless him"

That's lovely Purplecatti. Mine just wanted attention Angry

LimesoakedMadeleine · 26/08/2012 20:28

Thanks for the replies everyone, it's reassuring to see this isn't so unusual. Reckon he'll be fine now he has a syndrome to google, Purplecatti!

Sweet really, and yes, funny. Got to wait till 12 weeks before inviting all our friends to have a giggle too...
