Just wondering what people recommend buying for a new born. I've sorted a Moses basket but not sure what else other than obvious things like baby monitor. What about play mats, bouncy chairs etc? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Pram or sling, 7 babygrows, 7 vests, a coat/hat, nappies nd wipes, changing mat, mat or baby chair or just bring moses basket up and down stairs. Unless yiu live in a ernomous house, don't bother with monitor. Boobs Wink or bottles etc

muslins are handy too

I've got a big playmat and a bouncy vibrating chair. Something to bath them in - i've gone for a foam thingy to put in our bath rather than a baby bath. The pram/car seat/travel system. Cot or cotbed + bedding. Bottles and steriliser, breast pump - all depending on how you plan to feed. Nappies.

Somewhere for baby to sleep at night - if moses basket, add two fitted sheets and a swaddle sheet (bloody lifesaver!!)

Somewhere for baby to sleep in the daytime - if not on you, good places are the pram (if it has a lie flat option) or the bouncer chair

Something to put baby into the car in - can get car seats that clip into buggy so if they fall asleep in the car you can move them around without waking

Somewhere for baby to be 'put' in the daytime (if they let you put them down) - bouncer, playmat with arches over are good places

Something to put on the baby - six vests and six sleepsuits (if you can restrain yourself) will be enough as you will be bought tonns

Toiletries - nappies, wipes, cotton wool and water (if you bother, I went straight to wipes), Muslins, and I bought a ramp for the big bath rather than a whole baby bath

Furniture - Moses basket, chest of drawers, couple of shelves with baskets on, cotbed for when they move into their own room

Toys - very very little in the first three months - maybe a nice teddy?

A blanket for the pram.

A bag to put all your stuff in for going out (doesnt need to be fancy, just big enough)

I have a 9 week ds the most useful thing has been muslins. Have to admit everyone says just have baby grows as they are easiest however I hate doing up poppers. I prefer to dress my ds in easy pull on trousers or shorts and a t shirt or a polo shirt, it also means you can easily see down the back of their nappy to check if they just farted or have pooed!-the glamorous life with a newborn.
We didn't get bought huge amounts of clothing however we have got given a silly amount of soft toys and comforters not quite sure what to do with them.
I treated myself to a leather changing bag (lin and Leo) and really appreciate having a nice one
Ds refuses to sit anywhere on his own so baby bouncer etc still pretty much unused. Just come down to our holiday place though and ds seems to love sleeping on the bean bag-might get one for home!
we have also found the Jo Jo Maman bebe travel change mat with the attached pockets for nappies etc really handy cost about £9 and really useful when changing in tight spaces when out and about. Also useful to take with you of you are just popping out and don't want to take the whole changing bag.

Bouncers and swing chairs etc are great but if you can borrow one first I'd try that - not all babies like them, and you might have just spent a fortune on one of those electric ones.

For DD I had...

A Moses basket - used a few times for a few minutes max, she hated it!

A bouncy chair - she hated it, but was ok in my niece's much more reclined chair.

Playmat - she could happily play or sleep on there for hours.

Cot - it went next to our bed and she went between that and our bed, but mostly slept in our bed.

Pushchair - was a horrible thing and I was on my third pushchair by the time she was 3.5 months. This is something I'd research properly.

Car seat - went on pushchair but was quite small. Then had a mamas and papas primo viaggio which I urge no one to consider for a newborn, it's awful! Car seats are another thing to research properly so you don't end up being someone who feels forced to put their 8 month old forward facing. My 23 month old niece can still fit safely into our Britax infant carrier.

Changing table and changing mat - this is actually really useful as I can throw loads of stuff in and shut the doors. I also prefer having DD high up when changing her as it's more comfortable, but many people prefer them on the floor.

Baby bath - it was huge which meant it didn't sit into the bath. This time I'll just use a seat thing instead.

Top and tail bath thing - never used it, don't know why you would tbh.

Play pen - DD always went mad if I tried to put her in there, although this wasn't as a newborn but from 7 months when she was crawling. I might use it this time to put baby in on a playmat or in a bouncer to stop DD doing things like change baby's nappy etc!

This time I'll be getting....

Baby hammock - instead of Moses basket or cot at first as everyone I know who's had one says it's helped their LO to settle.
