Probably fine - but aaiiieee!!

My feet - the only part of me that is - have always been really bony. Suddenly just now, I look down and they look like the Elephant Man's feet! Super swollen up! Is this bad, normal, indicative of what, anything I can do to help them??

This isn't even worth its own thread and I could totally look it up, but they look so grotesque I need a thread Blush

How pg are you?
My doc keeps asking me if mine are swollen - seems to be a risk indicator for high blood pressure - my BP is fine but last night my feet were quite swollen (but I'd spent a lot of time on them yesterday, where normally I rest more, and I'm 33w pg)

So - when did you last have your BP checked?

I'm 32 weeks - I had my 32 weeks appointment with the midwife just on Tuesday (3 days ago) and it was fine.

Hi Orenishii, this is a very common symptom of pregnancy, especially in the heat. The baby is probably sitting on your vessels down to your legs, making the draining of fluid away from them more difficult.

Tips to help include: keeping your feet and legs elevated as much as possible. I lie on the floor with a pillow under my bottom and my legs straight up a wall to get fluid to drain (difficult to get in position, but really worth it). Drink lots of water. Avoid caffeine, too much salty food and crossing your legs. Sitting in a cool bath or swimming can help. Or wrap your feet in a cold wet tea towel.

If you can encourage someone to treat you to a pregnancy massage then go for it! And ask if they can do a bit of lymphatic drainage on your feet. My massage therapist recommended V-Nal cream which you can buy at Holland & Barrett.

Be aware: swelling can be a sign of pre-eclampsia, a potentially dangerous condition in pregnancy. If it has come on suddenly, or you also have swelling in your face or other places, call your midwife.

I'm also about 32 weeks and suffering with the same.

I went to a wedding with 500 guests on Sunday where there was no air conditioning. Fortunately we were staying at the hotel, so I escaped TWICE for an ice cold bath!

And I had to decline a much longed-for glass of champagne as I knew it would make me swell up even more Sad

Hi Babywitch - thanks for the info. I'll try elevating my legs - I work from home and am quite bad for just sitting in a chair all day. Previous to them swelling up I'd just been hoovering and waddling around.

All my appointments have been fine - last one I had some ketones in my sample but the MW wasn't concerned, I was mostly just dehydrated.

It just seemed to happen so suddenly, took me by surprise. Though still swollen, I think they have gone down a little now.

OK well thank you for telling me to ring the MW! I normally pay things down but I also have spots in my vision and a slight headache so they want me to come in. Sure it's all fine but thanks for prompting me to call!

That's good - hope all is well.

flight socks also help. especially for long drives or when you have to be on your feet for a long time.
