Got admitted on Wednesday after approx 4 weeks of constant vomiting and losing almost a stone in weight.

After being fobbed off by my GP 3 times and basically being told I wasn't dehydrated and given a variety of drugs that didn't work I reached breaking point and called NHS direct sobbing my heart out, they told me to go to a and e and I was admitted straight away. By this point there was blood in my vomit, I was vomiting around 60 times a day (I'm honestly not extending the truth here). I had to get my mum to take me as i was so weak i could barely walk and I wasn't fit to drive.

End result was me being on a drip for 3 days straight with various anti sickness injections and being diagnosed as having Hyperemesis

My GP didn't even see me, first two times he prescribed me stuff over the phone and the 3rd time I was seen by a nurse at the GP surgery who td me I wasn't dehydrated and ok to work - this was the day before I got admitted to hospital.

Ladies please do not fall into the same trap that I did by thinking morning sickness it's serious enough to take up a GP or hospitals time - it is!

On a more positive note I got to see my baby on a scan and the little rascal causing the problems is fine and dandy!

OMG that is really awful, you poor thing. it would have driven me to distraction. thank goodness you and the baby are ok!

i would urge you to contact PALS about this, even if you don't want to make an official complaint. this could have gone very badly for both you and the baby and there's nothing to stop them ignoring someone else with the same problem.

It has really unnerved me, Made me feel as if I was being a hypochondriac. I have also been signed off work for another week from today by the hospital doctor. The hospital staff were fantastic but unfortunately I'm now left with little confidence in my GP for the rest of my pregnancy :(

60 times a day??!! Shock You poor thing!!

I was also admitted to hospital with HG at around 10 weeks pregnant, was there for 2 days and understand that it is not a nice thing at all.

At its worst I was only sick about 9 times a day, so I can only imagine how bad 60 times was.

There is an HG support thread in the Pregnancy section, lots of other women in the same boat there.

Hope you feel better soon and that the sickness calms down.

fluffywhitekittens · 24/08/2012 18:25

Sadly your case is not uncommon :( have a look at the HG support threads here or Facebook has a support page under Hyperemesis Gravidarium and pregnany sickness support uk.
this site is excellent.

Mrsb999 · 24/08/2012 19:37

Yep it was 60 times a day at its worst, 10 on a really good manageable day. I can't believe how common it is either and how it was shoved aside by my GP! I'm not one for crying and im suprised the nhS direct bloke understood a word I said!

I'm just so happy I feel better now and I'm at home in my bed, my poor arms and right bum cheek look like pin cushions with the emotions of injections etc I had!

I remember how horrible the injection was :( Had injection of cyclizine in my hip, had a huge bruise for weeks!

Is this your 1st pregnancy? How far along are you?

You really aren't alone, 'tis a pity your GP wasn't more professional with you as I'm sure you aren't the first patient who has suffered this.

I didn't have any sickness at all with my DS, but this pregnancy has been a different ballgame - am 40 weeks today and have been taking cyclizine orally from 10 weeks when I was admitted to hospital :( Can't wait for this baby to hurry up and be born!

Mrsb999 · 24/08/2012 20:18

Yes it's my first and I'm 10 weeks tomoro, just hope it doesnt last full term. Yes those are the injections I had, they sting like hell too but were so worth it as they made me feel so much better

I also had cyclzine introvenusly and found it ok as they diluted it. Got prescribed them
Orally on my discharge and took them for 3 weeks. They were brill!

NeedlesCuties · 25/08/2012 08:04

Mrsb999 you sound a bit like me then in terms of when you were in hospital - I was also there around the 9-10 week mark.

You'll be fine, just keep on at the health professionals if you need anything and arm yourself with meds for when you're at home.

I'm a one-woman awareness raising machine now about HG! Will tell anyone about it, as I'd never heard about it till I got it and was really shocked.

All the best

Svrider · 25/08/2012 08:09

999 cart you swap gps
Tis quite easy
Glad your feeling better

NellyBluth · 25/08/2012 08:18

You poor thing! I hope you're feeling a little better now? HG is just awful. I still have nightmares about the day I called the out of hours GP in hysterics because I was so dehydrated and ill, losing a lb a day. Thank god I got an American doctor (am in the UK) who seemed very open to prescribing anti-nausea drugs, he even prescribed them over the phone and had them ready for me to collect from a pharmacy just down the road. I can see now that if I hadn't got tablets that day and been encouraged to have a day or two of clear soup, Lucozade and dry toast to build my stamina back up I would have been in hospital the next day.

Definitely complain about your GP. That is shocking.

amybelle1990 · 25/08/2012 13:36

Wow!

I would complain! That's totally appalling!

Hope you're feeling better now
