I am currently 24 weeks and it feels like a long time between a 20 week scan and giving birth without seeing the baby again. So we're considering a 3D/4D scan at about 30 weeks. Has anyone had one and if so, what did you think? Worth the money? A bit freaky??

I had mine Tuesday it was brilliant!!! Loved it!!

I would suggest 28 weeks as the cord caused quite a lot of artefacts on the images we have but they were so friendly and we had loads of time!!

It is a lot of money but I'm so pleased I went for it!

We had one at 30w as we were missing bub and I loved it! Was a bit weird at first but loved seeing her wiggling about and her lovely little face.

We got a deal for £90 from Baby Premier that included 20mins DVD, about 20 pics and a few other bits. It's still a lot of money, but it also helped reassure me that all was ok with little one as they did all the measurements, checked my amniotic fluid levels/placenta etc.

Another one with a good experience, I had mine at 28 weeks... Amazingly clear pictures and a world away from the normal 2d scans! I nearly cancelled due to funds but sooo glad that we went! Really helped to feel even more bonded with our little boy!

I'd suggest going with caution if you don't want to know the sex... Even more obvious in 3d! Also, my DB went at 24 weeks and it was a bit to early, baby hadn't 'filled out' much and the clarity of the pictures isn't as good... I did quite a bit of research before booking and believe that between 28 and before 30 weeks is the optimum time to go. Baby's not too big to get a good view and there's the roughly the right of amniotic fluid which apparently helps getting good views... Go! Enjoy GrinGrin

Thanks for the positive comments - seems like it might be a good thing to do.

Kelbells we don't want to know the sex. Do you think they might be able to 'hide' this from us??

We were a bit shall we/shan't we with the 4D scan but eventually went for one last week at 30 weeks. What I would advise is that you read the policy of the company you decide to go with regarding re scans if you can't get a clear image because we had to go away and come back twice on the day as our little monkey had its hands, feet, umbilical cord covering its face each time and refused to move! Which is ironic considering its usually disco dancing in there! Luckily where we went you get a re scan on another day for free so hopefully this time it will be a bit less camera shy! We did still get the well being report and two shots that we managed to get of the face (one when it was doing a cheeky knowing smile!). Also, we don't want to know the sex either and we told the sonographer at the start and she just said look away when she was checking that area! It is a bit expensive and frivolous but if you want to, why not?

I found it abit boring tbh, My mum and mil loved it though.

thebabywife · 24/08/2012 16:24

Scans are never boring!

We had our scan at just before 29 weeks, and it was amazing - really good clear images and the tech really took her time. We went to babybond x

Herbsmum · 24/08/2012 16:29

We had one with baby bond at about 32 weeks. It was totally self indulgent but worth it. Have got some brill pictures that she really likes looking at now.

I had a 4D scan at my local hospital at 31 weeks. To be honest i was disappointed, id booked in for 40min scan time, CD rom of images, 4 print our images and a DVD of the best bits at a price of £135.

However baby kept going out of focus, turning her back, hands constantly near her face, so in the end after 20mins the scanograher gave up! Said it wasnt worth carrying on, and charged us £70 for 27 CD rom images, and 4 print out photos.

Would i have one again? No i dont think i would.

My mum and step dad really enjoyed it tho, maybe my expectations were too high.

Kelbells · 24/08/2012 19:39

I'm sure they'll try and avoid the 'area'!... It's just everything is a bit.. Well.... 3D Grin if there's something obvious it might be difficult to hide Wink

ItsMyLastOne · 25/08/2012 10:12

I had one at 23+4 and was disappointed tbh. The baby was lying transverse and very low down so we couldn't see much. The pictures we have show a lot of pelvis and not much baby. There are about 3 decent pictures altogether.

I'd go with a big reputable company and do it later than I did.
