Transverse babies anyone?

Please tell me I'm not alone?!
I'm 32 weeks and it's starting to really hurt, I'm uncomfortable and when the baby moves its so painful!!

It can't just be me? My DD was breech and I loved feeling her move, this time round it literally looks like something out of Alien trying to push its way out and oh man when baby drops down low I feel like my scar is going to burst open!!

Anyone else fancy a moan?!

Ow ow ow
Here we go, the violent moving has started. And I'm home alone...it's ok to open and eat the pack of chocolate fudge biscuit things I bought especially for DH yes?

Eat the biscuits. Transverse is awful. Ds2 was like that for a while. Ds1 was breech. Happy days eh?

Biggem · 23/08/2012 20:21

Thanks! It sucks, breech was lovely!!!

Both mine are transverse, one along my bladder and the other above my belly button. I am starting to really struggle now and it is becoming very painful. I feel like I am stretching and going to pop. On one my many nightly toilet trip waddles I felt like crying when I touched my rock hard bump and wondered how I can possibly go another 7 or 8 weeks.

hermionestranger · 23/08/2012 20:31

Ds1 was breech but in a really funny position. His head was under my ribs and I couldn't breathe or lie down for weeks! The heartburn was horrendous.

Ds2 transverse was bloody awful too.

Worth it though. X

Gardenpixies - you have 2 transverse beasts?
I cannot imagine how sore you must be and how much fun bending for things can be!
Mine is rock hard aswell, due 20th October, you?
I have a scan at 36 weeks to confirm position coz of breech last time.
Are you booked in for a section?

Ha ha - beasts, that made me laugh! Yes, both madams are transverse and seem very comfortable kicking and distorting my bump. I have given up on bending, putting on shoes/sock, getting knickers on is getting almost impossible too. I am due 5 November but am expecting them anytime in October really. Consultant will not discuss section with me and is all for me pushing them both out naturally!!! Unless the bottom one moves head down, a section it will be.

Is this your second DC?

Biggem · 23/08/2012 21:18

Yep 2nd, 17 month gap - so picking up dc1 is fun fun fun! It's ok if the beast is asleep but when awake just boots and pushes the hell out of everything near me.
I'm terrified about having another section Blush
Why is ur consultant not discussing sections?! I know they could move, but with 2 in there surely there's less chance?

I had my 4th as a transverse oblique.......never engaged (until he was traversing his way out) as he kept moving- even in labour. It all worked out and had him naturally (9lbs 14 oz) . It was very uncomfortable and I completely empathise with you. Sleeping was the worst - I used to 'nest' in two bean bags from about 32 weeks and hope for sleep. Just remember as soon as you meet your beautiful bundles this will melt away. I won't share how they started my labour off- I wasn't really given the option of a section. They figured being my 4th I would manage with a bit of help.
It will all work out lovely ladies......

cece · 23/08/2012 21:27

2 out of 3 of mine were transverse.

Had them both naturally in the end.

milk · 24/08/2012 07:46

I'm 34+3 and my baby is still transverse :( Obviously didn't get my eviction notice letter :( lol

I really do not want a C-section so happy to hear about cece

gardenpixies32 · 24/08/2012 11:22

Don't blame you for being terrified, I would be too!

Consultant is convinced bottom baby will turn and that I can have a successful natural labour. Says we can discuss options nearer 36 weeks! Oh, well. He is a lovely doctor and I do trust him, we'll see.

Good luck with your transverse monster!

trilottie · 24/08/2012 11:33

Oh my I have one transverse beastie and thats enough! I am sick of having to work at an angle to accommodate a head in the side of my ribs. 32 weeks on Sunday and my MW isn't worried yet so fingers crossed she turns at some point soon.
I spent an hour on my elbows and knees the other night to no avail.

Biggem · 24/08/2012 13:34

I just know my little beast isn't going to turn!
Having a punchbag party on my insides currently - its like alien trying to burst its way out...should maybe point out the only exit is DOWN! Not the sunroof again Wink

Thumbwitch · 24/08/2012 13:45

Another transverse/oblique here too! Don't know sex of it, but it's giving me far more grief than DS ever did!
Agree with the Alien analogy - mine does just look like Alien, working its way across my tum. Likes to swap sides too, so sometimes the head is under my liver, and other times under my spleen.

I have terrible acid reflux, most of the time - and am also sleeping on a bean bag so that I'm not flat, because I get reflux in the night if I'm flat.

33w now so not too long to go - really hope the baby drops down soon though. My belly feels tight as a drum already, can't believe there are a few weeks of growth yet to go! Shock

Biggem · 24/08/2012 16:33

That's the worst bit, you know they are gonna start piling on the pounds now!
And I got my first stretch mark this morning. Angry
What the protocol with labour and transverse babies - ECV first or do they just let labour start?

Spice17 · 24/08/2012 16:40

Stupid Q but how do you know if traverse? Im 34 weeks and baby feels traverse but MW not felt her yet (should do next week hopefully!)

Thumbwitch · 24/08/2012 16:40

I wouldn't have ECV if you paid me, not after reading www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1542806-Are-people-aware-of-the-dangers-of-ECV this thread. :(

I'm hoping that this one will go head down by about 36w, but if it doesn't, my first port of call will be a reflexologist and then I'll talk to the consultant about other options after that (which won't include an ECV).

Thumbwitch · 24/08/2012 16:42

Spice - I know the baby is transverse because I have full scans every 4w and a mini scan every time I see my consultant (every 2w now) - but I am in Australia and chose to go private (health insurance) because I'm a bit high risk anyway.

Spice17 · 24/08/2012 16:57

Ah OK thanks Thumb

Would also not have ECV but bit worried about saying this to bossy, no nonsense MW!

Biggem · 24/08/2012 17:10

I had ECV in attempt to turn breech DD1, it failed and was horrific. I will not be doing it again, so looks like section for me :(

Spice, with my beast all my movement is on the sides and bottom of the bump - have yet to have a rib kick in 2 pregnancies!!

Totobear · 24/08/2012 17:22

Hi, my baby was transverse at around 30 weeks and I spent the next few weeks doing all of the recommended exercises possible. I basically didn't sit down but spent all of my time sitting forward or on my hands and knees. I also took my birthing ball to work and it did the trick and he moved head down, although he was back to back, cue more exercises and swimming like crazy!

It was fairly exhausting! I used the spinning babies site to help with what to do.

Have you tried the exercises?

Biggem · 24/08/2012 20:21

Tried them all last time to no avail, and I was active (2 mile walks daily) throughout the pregnancy, scrubbing floors, swimming blah blah blah so I hold little hope this time TBH. Midwife said I must have an odd shaped pelvis.
Thanks Confused
