Just got a BFP, can't be excited. Can't relax, sprint even want to tell DH because I keep miscarrying.

What shall I do? I was just referred for 21 day bloods but totally wrong about my dates so didn't go... So I have no idea why I kept having miscarriages but really don't want to lose this one :s

Some people say take baby aspirin? Some people take certain vitamins?

Please can someone advise me?

I'm absolutely bursting to ring DH, my mum, my best friend... But if it all ends like the others then is rather they didn't know at all...

Congratulations!

Gosh, have you had any investigations for so many MCs? Were they all in a row? I'd head straight to my GP to discuss it, and maybe ask for a referral to an obs consultant?

curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2012 10:13

I've been referred for 21 day bloods and a scan a few times, but twice I was then pregnant, so didn't go, and the third time my daughter was really ill.

I've called my GP but no appointments so waiting for a call back.

I don't know what to do...

Have a non walking almost 2 year old so have to carry her too... Usually wouldn't bother me but now I'm worried about everything!

I can't let myself believe it

First of all, congratulations - even if it's only the first step a BFP is still a good thing Smile

You could try posting in the miscarriage section here as the ladies are more likely to know the up to date advice re recurrent miscarriage. In fact they may know more than the GP Wink

From my very limited knowledge, I believe baby aspirin is often recommended, as are progesterone supplements, but better to ask a doctor or those with experience. Also, has your thyroid been tested, as underactive thyroid can often be a cause of early mc?

Best of luck, really hope this BFP sticks for you.

curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2012 10:27

Thanks... That was one of the tests with the 21 day bloods but never got around to having it!

I'll post in that topic x

hey curious

I also had 5 MCs after DS1 was born in 2008. 3 were MMCs around 12 weeks, and I then had tests which showed nothing wrong (except age!). I then had 2 more early losses (6ish weeks), and was about to throw in the towel, when I got a BFP in January.

I'm now 34 weeks, and hae been well looked after by the Recurrent MC team at the local hospital, I'm also under consultant care. I'm 44 and feel blessed to be where I am.

I remember the early weeks and how hard it was - in fact I haven't really relaxed all pregnancy tbh.

I would not do anything without medical advice - it's a shame you haven't had any tests so far. Were all your losses early ones?

Try and relax and remember for today you are pregnant.

curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2012 10:36

They were all between 6 and 8 weeks. So basically I'm terrified xx

Hi there

Firstly congratulations:-)

I know exactly how you feel, I've also had 5 recurrent MCI's all between 6 - 11 weeks. We had all the bloods that came back clear after number 3.

I was put on low dose aspirin aka baby aspirin and after number 5 high dose folic acid which my gp prescribed! We then went back for more evasive tests with fertility, while on the waiting list I found d I was pregnant again just after Xmas last year!

I'm now 38 weeks pregnant with a very wriggly little girl! I won't lie the first three months were a nightmare with various scans at epau, but all's now fine!

You could speak to your gp about early scans due to so many losses and aspirin plus it may be worth mentioning the 5mg folic acid:-)

Good luck xx

Hi, congratulations!

A lot of mc's are thought to be related to clotting and over active immune systems (for instance, google Natural Killer cells (NK cells)). If this is the case, there are a number of things that can be prescribed for you - low dose aspirin, clexane, certain steroids, etc.

The problem is though that your GP may just give you the brush off (a lot of the medical community are dismissive of immunes treatment), or it may take too long to get an appointment with an NHS consultant - and time is of the essence, obviously. If you want the name of a private recurrent mc specialist in London, please feel free to PM me.

FYI, at my IVF clinic nearly every woman was put on one 75mg aspirin tablet a day and one or two jabs of clexane a day - it was a totally standard precautionary measure (obviously they would not give these to someone who had a bleeding disorders, ulcers etc though). Also, if you do take the aspirin/clexane, I'm pretty sure that you need to stop if have any vaginal bleeding.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear of all your losses. I've been there too so know how tough it is. You really need to have some investigations asap to find out what is happening. Have a look at miscarriage association website and recurrent miscarriage clinic. I was investigated outside of pregnancy by Prof Regan at St. Mary's London. I'm now taken 75mg aspirin (which worked in a previous pregnancy) and clexane for clotting problems. The earlier you can start treatment the better.

I really hope you are successful this time, but if you find yourself having problems again try and get a referral to Prof Regan's clinic. They will only test when you are not pregnant and then test again as soon as you get the BFP. While under their care I lost another baby, but they were able to test the foetus and find out why I had miscarried. On this occasion it was a chromosomal problem. It was good to know rather than wondering and gave us hope that we had a good chance next time. I'm now 21wks. St. Mary's scanned me every 2 weeks up until 10weeks which provides some reassurance and if it all goes wrong there is immediate help (although not much emotional support).

Can your GP do clotting tests or refer you to local hospital recurrent miscarriage consultant urgently? I'd discuss taking aspirin with the GP too. it might be worth looking for Prof Regan's book about miscarriage. It's called something like what every woman needs to know about miscarriage. It debunks the myths and explains what investigations can be done and treatments that work. I don't know whether hormones can be measured during pregnancy but an imbalance can cause pregnancy loss. A friend discovered she had polycystic ovaries and related hormone problems were causing her losses. Now she has 2 gorgeous children.

I hope you are successful this time round, but if not, do try and get a referral to a specialist clinic. as for not being able to relax about the pregnancy, there is no easy answer. I've panicked and worried throughout this pregnancy and will continue to do so. I've tried not telling anyone and dealing with it on my own and that is tough. With the last 2 pregnancies I did confide in a couple of close friends and their emotional support has been invaluable. Sometimes you just need to express your fears and worries.

I am really suprised you have not had more tests after 5 miscarriages, there are a range of tests you should have been offered. I think this page is a good summary of the causes, tests and potential treatments for Mcs
www.womens-health-clinic.co.uk/articles/recurrent-miscarriages-causes.html

The problem with self-medicating with aspirin or anything else is that it can cause problems if you have no clotting issues.
Day 21 tests usually just confirm you have ovulated so not sure what your GP is doing? I would ask to be referred to a specialist MC clinic who can also help you over the next few weeks, give you reassurance scans etc

best of luck, those early days are brutal but there are many success on here to give you hope!

funchum8am · 24/08/2012 11:48

I asked my GP about taking aspirin when i got a BFP after 2 MCs. He said the problem with taking it without a clear medical reason is that in 20% of people who take aspirin daily it causes internal bleeding (usually in the stomach) which can be very serious. Probably best to do what others have said and get a GP appt, and if they are not taking you seriously point out that after 3 MCs you were entitled to tests which you haven't been able to have and ask to be cared for by the nearest team of recurrent miscarriage midwives.

curiousgeorgie · 24/08/2012 12:28

My GP has arranged for me to have a scan in two weeks at the EPU. Other than that he's told me that all I should take is folic acid.

I already feel something is wrong though.. My bfps were a clearblue (pregnant 1-2 weeks) and 2 first responses.

Today I took the other clearblue which said pregnant 1-2 weeks, but the first response had the faintest second line I had to take the test apart to see it.

Trying not to panic. Not really anything I can do... :(
