Thrush in pregnancy?

I think after googling symptoms that I may have this. I am itchy, sore and have a thick white discharge (tmi sorry) but I can't get a doctors appointment for 3 weeks - are over the counter treatments safe to use during pregnancy? I can't get to the shops until Thursday, are there any home remedies I could try, I'm really quite uncomfortable.

Thank you

Sounds like thrush, canesten is perfectly safe to use in pregnancy, just remember wen using the pessary or cream don't insert it all the way in, use ur finger and go as far as comfortable it will still work. I was told by a doc that any brand other than canesten is not recommended.

If you want immediate relief natural yogurt wit probiotics is great to slather on, even better if it's been in the fridge, but make sure it's sugar free as yeast feeds off sugar and it may make it worse.

Good luck, hope you feel better soon, thrush is horrid Sad

you can use creams and pessaries but not the oral tablet

Thank you both.

The only yoghurt I have in the house is petit falu (or however you spell it) and I'm not sure toddler ds would be to impressed of I stole it Grin

Canesten cream works ok if mild thrush, pessary works best - itching stops asap and all gone pretty soon :).

I had thrush, phoned the midwife and she got me a prescription for Canestan so I didn't have to pay for it. It cleared up within a day.

^^ What Shell said. Pessary, inserted with finger not applicator. Get a prescription so it's free.

I'd call your midwife - 3 weeks is too long to suffer!

Watch your sugar intake as it makes yeast grow. Eat live plain yoghurt and/ or take probiotic supplements. I take Bio-Kult which is safe for pregnancy - you can get it at Boots.
