Running during pregnancy...any experience?

I'm very newly pregnant (about 5 weeks) and if things go well I would like to continue running for as long as I can.
I currently run about 3 times a week, 5 miles per run so not masses but not nothing either.

Does anyone have any experience of running whilst pregnant. Did your dr / midwife think it was safe? How long were you able to continue running before your bump was too big or you were too tired?

Would love to hear about your experience

Blimey I'm impressed. I've had to give up all but walking because I was bleeding. But then I'm breathless & dizzy just walking up the stairs at mo despite fact that pre pregnancy I ran up & down themquite happily & ran about 4-5 miles a couple of times week. I think everyone is different & advice seems to be if you're ok keep going just stay well hydrated & don't over heat.

Swimming pools just up road have been revamped & open next week so my plan is to go swimming at least 3 times a week & maybe get back on treadmill if I get all clear at 12 week scan & there's no bleeding repetition. I love swimming so as long as pools not too crowded I'll build up to a good hour a session workout and jut slow it down as I get more whale like :)

Seriously impressed by you runners. Although signing up for races post birth sounds totally nutty to me. But then you wouldn't get me in a race for all the tea in china at the best of times..

I was told to be careful until you've had your anomalies scan at about 12 weeks. I can't remember what it's called- single artery vein??? But it's very common and usually creates no complications during the pregnancy unless you're exercising as it can reduce the oxygen getting to the baby so I was told its safest to not exercise if it increases the heart rate or makes you puff (if it applies to you).
