Still wearing normal, underwired, padded bras?

Anyone doing this? If they fit I still wear them (33 weeks) Can't afford to buy different ones and will need them more when baby comes and I'm breastfeeding I guess.

Is it damaging to boobs?

I believe padded is fine, but I think the underwires can interfere with the development of the milk ducts in the breast tissue.

Badly fitting underwires are the problem, the fact you have said you can;t afford a new one, are you wearing your old bras? Mine would be way too small.
You can buy some pretty cheaply online for about £5?

I got mastitis a few weeks ago (I'm 22 weeks now) apparently because I was wearing (well fitting) underwires. It was horrible and I had to have a big dose of antibiotics to get rid of it so I'm now strictly on non-underwired now. However, if you've got to 33 weeks without any problems you're probably ok.... but I found in my previous pregnancy that if I bought slightly generous nursing bras at this stage of pregnancy, they were fine for breastfeeding after the first week or so once the engorgement had settled down so if you can bear it, it might be worth getting the nursing bras now and wearing those (horrible as they are!)

I'm only 10+5 but still wearing my too tight wired bras. I have huge boobs (36F at the moment) so worried about how well the non wired will hold up. How much bigger could they get?

I'm 32 and weeks and I'm also still breastfeeding a toddler, and I am not giving up the underwires for anyone! I had mastitis once when DD was very tiny, and no problems at all since, but I do make sure I have bras where the wires sit on my chest and not my boobs (if that makes sense - they are bigger/wider?). As farfalla said, it's the badly-fitted ones that can cause problems, and I wouldn't under-estimate just how nasty those problems can be; if there's any hint of so much as a blocked duct you need to sort it out straight away, and if it keeps happening you will probably have to change bras.

I didn't like the mono-boob sagginess of nursing bras; not just the look but also the lack of support (am 34F at the mo) which made them quite sore. You can buy wired nursing bras too, btw - vertbaudet do them, amongst others.

Have a look at a brand called Anita, they do soft underwire suitable for both feeding and pregnancy. I have bought those and can confirm good support. My boobs are just too big to forgo underwiring!

Thanks everyone, was a 36 E before getting pregnant and after a stage of huge boobs I still am, so as they fit I wasn't too worried.

However, I think I may invest in some more nursing bras and just start wearing them now even though they make my boobs merge into my bump

I wore underwire all the way through, switched to nursing bras for a while but hated them and went back to wired. The important thing is that they fit well.
