We got one called Angelcare which seems to have all the required functions although no camera / screen (those are a lot more expensive). It has not been properly tested yet as DC not yet arrived Grin.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along soon. I also think there may be a special baby monitor advice forum under products..

Good luck!

I bought s really expensive digital monitor, video monitor, I could take my big yo end of garden, it had big range as I live in town house etc for dd. it stopped working after about 2 months! I returned it think it was about £120? Bought cheap Tomy one was about £20 used for dd and ds and threw it away about a month ago (had been working intermittently so you could see lights moving but not always hear) it was fab!!

I don't need a video one as dc will be in next room to us and we only have a small house. I was looking at the angel care one that's ar

We've got a John Lewis one thats rubbish. It seems to have started turning itself off if ds cries. Really useful Hmm

Rhubarb78 · 20/08/2012 21:23

we got the angel care with the mat but no video (around £70 in mothercare) I love it, it beeps to let you know that it had detected movement off the lo (slightly obsessive but I find it reassuring) you can turn this function off though. been using it for 5 months now with no problems. one false alarm when ds was curled in the corner in such a tight ball he practically wasnt even in the cot! gets thumbs up from me

Elkieb · 20/08/2012 21:26

I have an avent one that cost £50ish, it's sensitive enough and has flashing lights when he cries. I don't think I want to watch him sleep or have an alarm when he moves. Would drive me mad!

gingerbubs · 20/08/2012 21:29

Love our angelcare. Have only ever had handful of false alarms, and only once dd got mobile and got herself to the very end of the cot and lay on her side! She's now 16 months.

MildredIsMyAlterEgo · 20/08/2012 21:45

I used the Angelcare one with the monitor and breathing sensor. Worked really well (bought it 2nd hand off ebay for £40, I think it was retailing for around £90)

susiegrapevine · 20/08/2012 21:56

We use a motorolla one cheapest one in argos £40 with 2 way talk but we only got this to replace our cheap 25 quid fisher price one as lo broke it by yanking on the wire one too many times it did have a bit of a background fuzz which did not bother us but still picked up the slightest noise and could even hear lo breathing. Motorolla one is good also we only got 2 way talk one so dh and I could talk to each other when one of us was in the bath with lo or in lo's room as you can't hear each other from one end of our flat to the other. Would otherwise have bought another fisher price cheapy.

GodisaDj · 20/08/2012 22:23

A vote for Angelcare here too. Depends if you want reassurance of having the sensor pad as it is costly. Could you look on eBay for a second hand one?

I slept far better knowing the sensor would go off if there were any problems Smile

HoneyMum21 · 21/08/2012 09:39

Lovely ladies who have the angelcare- when breathing monitor is. I longer required can it be turned off and use the monitor just for sound?

MildredIsMyAlterEgo · 21/08/2012 10:28

Yes, you can just use the sound option if you want

HoneyMum21 · 21/08/2012 10:56

Thanks :) If that's the case that's what i'm going to go for i think

backwardpossom · 21/08/2012 10:59

Um, if DC will be in the room next to you, do you need a monitor? I never bothered with one last time and doubt I will this time.

LauraSmurf · 21/08/2012 13:18

BT - not the top top range one with light show etc, but the pine below that.

Best thing ever is the 'mute low' button. If you baby is a noisy sleeper like mine then this blocks out the lowest level noises but plays the louder noises. It is amazing!

minipie · 21/08/2012 16:05

To those who have the Angelcare one with the sensor pad - has the sensor pad ever been useful, i.e. has your baby ever had a non-breathing episode that the sensor detected?

Just wondering whether this function is actually useful or if it's just there to calm anxiety (though that can be useful in itself of course)

fairimum · 21/08/2012 22:37

we had the alarm go off about 6 or 7 times with DD she was prem and would 'forget' to breath - the loud beeping was always enough to startle her into breathing though - worth its weight in gold!

minipie · 22/08/2012 11:58

Thanks fairi. My sister (not prem) had a few episodes of "forgetting to breathe" when she was tiny (I remember the midnight dashes to hospital) so this is something I'm particularly worried about. Think I might get the Angelcare one as otherwise I'll be hovering over DD's cot all night.
