I am a bit one track minded and all my favourite things to do when have time involve being active. So if I might take the dog a walk, blitz clean+tidy, go shopping, visit museums etc.

But everything I like doing involves being mobile and on my feet.

However I have SPD (currently awaiting physio appointment) and find that I can't do these things anymore without bad hip problems.

I have had a day off today with DS in nursery and literally everything I could think of was bad for my hips!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Oh and money is an issue, so massage type stuff is out of my budget.

Please help this crumbly stuck in a rut pregnant person. Grin

Swimming?? My pyhsio said swimming was great, she didnt mean laps of the pool just time in the water as takes weight of the pelvis, she has even recommended i could try hydrotheraphy this time to help things and am only 11 weeks nearly

Hmmm - I've been told not to even think about breast stroke, which is the only one I'm any good at, so I'd sort of ruled it out - however, it isn't such a daft idea - as you say, taking the weight off and maybe just floating about would be good. :)

Yoga :) I love it! You could find some videos on YouTube and avoid having to pay for a DVD from Amazon or wherever.

Love the idea of Yoga - not sure I can do it though as sitting on a chair is about the only position I can get into without pain!

I'm going to go mad before baby arrives aren't I! Grin

You definitely shouldn't do breast stroke. If you don't feel up to another stroke take a kick board/float and just kick, you can sometimes borrow them from the pool. It's also great for getting the baby in the right position.

You have my every sympathy, I'm 23 weeks and waiting for it to start, swimming has really helped Smile

Also, re. yoga... my instructor has shown us some great moves that don't upset SPD. There's a few ladies suffering in my pre-natal class that I go to so it is possible :) Worth having a look online and seeing what the alternative moves are xx

I'd love to be a 'lady what yoga's' I have only just finished my degree so am trying to get the scales to drop from my eyes as I look at the world afresh and seek new possibilities of what to do with my time! Grin

Depending on where you are there is a fitness class for pregnancy called 'maternally fit' and all classes are taught by physios with qualifications in women's health. They do modifications for SPD and have given me lots of great advice too. I tried them after a recommendation on mumsnet as I also have SPD and as I'm only 26 weeks was dreading being immobile for the rest of pregnancy

I'm also seeing an NHS physio at my maternity hospital and she said exercise helps to strengthen the ligaments around the pelvis with I turn can help stabilise it. She also said swimming is great, but no breast stroke. She recommended prenatal Pilates over yoga and said don't ever 'work through the pain' with SPD. If it hurts, stop.

Thanks Osterley - that all sounds well worth following up. I have been worrying about not exercising and losing the strength to hold everything togther but then exercise was proving 'tricky' and I didn't know how to find the balance - will look forward to the physio appointment. :)

I'm dreading losing more mobility too - for my sanity but also because I want to be strong for the birth and beyond. Hopefully these pointers will help. :)
