Was talking to a friend about this and I actually don't know! The community midwife office is only open weekdays 9am-1pm, and even then you usually can't get hold of anyone. 'My' midwife at the surgery is always too busy to answer her phone and the GPs as a rule 'don't deal with pregnancy' at our surgery. The obstetrician said 'if you have any problems before the next appt, call' but again only 'office hours'. And would you actually get to speak to someone? So who would you speak to? Midwife on the labour ward? Someone from the birth centre?

I've decided to go for a private scan I think to check growth as I doubt I'd manage to convince anyone that bump should have grown in 4 1/2 weeks and would rather be safe than sorry (it's only £100 - worth it for peace of mind!), but again - who would I call if there WAS a problem????

Depending on how far along you are. Either gynae if before 20 weeks, or maternity bleep holder if over 20 weeks. If you call the hospital switchboard they can direct you.

Labour ward here if community MW team not available.

Check your hospital notes. They should contain all the numbers you need.

Gosh, thats not great. I call my birthing centre that is open 24 hours a day and speak to any of the MW's, or call my local hospital and speak to the antenatal ward. I'd call wherever you are due to give birth if you've got any immediate worries.

Labour ward. They are open 24 hours. Ours has a triage system so they can refer you to another department if necessary.

Labour ward if over 16 weeks and any problems

On my notes there is a sticker with important numbers, you call the antenatal day unit number and if it's out of hours get put straight through to antenatal ward. Usually they will just tell you to come in for monitoring if it's reduced movment.

SammyB30 · 19/08/2012 10:04

Anti-natal day unit at the hospital. Will have you in and put you on a monitor for half hour.

Labour ward.
I hadn't felt bean a few weeks ago (27 weeks) all night or morning, I rang the labour ward and said I'm sure it's just me panicking but....... and they were really really nice and told me to come right in.
Everything was fine but I was told I'd done the right thing and hadn't wasted anybody's time at all.
For the record, I can recommend the unit at Kendal hospital. All the staff were lovely and the receptionist asked me if I was Ms. X the moment I'd stepped through the door and I was whisked off straight away to a room.
