Consultant appointment

Can anyone tell me what generally happens at a consultant appointment? I'm more than likely going to have one to discuss the possibility of a wbac, what happens if I go overdue, and when they would want me in when in labour.

I do NOT want weighed, measured etc - my midwife had all that information, and I don't need the ritual humiliation stress of it happening when I'm there.

They are unlikely to want to repeat anything that has been done recently, apart from anything else they will be under a time pressure, so wont waste it doing anything that isnt needed.

Oh, and I'm 21 weeks currently, if that makes any difference - no appt date as yet.

I had one yesterday. Saw a care assistant first, who took blood pressure, would have checked urine if I'd brought it, and told me the purpose of the appointment.

Then Dr came in. Felt and measured my bump, listened to baby's heartbeat, and had very brief conversation about VBAC.

It did feel a bit of a waste, but will be my 2nd VBAC, all being well.

At my consultant appts they have a MW doing all the usual checks then you see the consultant to do the talking bit. They may also do HB/feel stomach

At mine I got measured, had my BP and urine checked, and baby's HB and position checked. I was only weighed after my 12w scan, and for my triple test, at no point after that by dr or mw.

Thanks, haitch!

Good, it's nothing to worry about Smile

I was just grumpy, cos its a half hour drive, ten min queue for car park, and a five min walk through hospital, by which time I was in agony. Sad

I had one last week - MW did all basic checks like blood pressure, urine, and then I saw one of the registrars under the consultant who talked to me about bub and a few tests they were going to run. No scales, and didn't even see consultant personally!

Thanks everyone - feeling much better about it all now!
