chill out, the measurements are an approximation and it depends on how baby is lying, if it were 5cm then you might have cause for concern, but 1cm is nothing :)

They don't bat an eyelid as long as you are within 2cm either side of the guide.

I was a cm over at about the same stage but at next check up I was bang on the target, so I think different growth surges can happen at different times from bump to bump and that can mean you go under, over, or on target at different times.

Having said that, in terms of weight I am now over target :( but that is my own fault as I have some stuff going on which is meaning I am not being able to be as active as usual but I haven't altered my diet.

I intend to breastfeed like mad to sort that out when baby comes. :)

Aw thanks for your comments...I looked and was thinking oh great big baby alert! Suppose it doesn't help i seemed to have picked up a taste for chocolate hob nobs...
Right with you on the BF front..... 'drops off'.... apparently!! :-)

It certainly helps! Did with my first, my sister had a very hungry baby and nearly ended up like a walking skeleton! Somewhere in between will do me. :)

I love choc hobnobs too!

I measured 1cm bigger than dates from about your stage onwards with DC2. He was born a few days early at 9lbs and is pretty chunky. DC1 was over a week late so I took the bigger measurements during pregnancy ast an indication that baby might be ready to arrive earlier.

I had 2 midwives measure me on the same day at 27 weeks. One came in at 26cm, the other at 28cm. I think it should just be within a few cm rather than dead on. Babies vary, as do women's bodies... as do the talents and techniques of the midwives doing the measuring!

CaptainHoratioWragge · 16/08/2012 17:09

In terms of the size of the baby i'm not sure it is that good an indicator.
My best friend was bang on target all the way through and there was no suggestion she would have a big baby- hello 10lb 11oz baby boy!

farfallarocks · 16/08/2012 17:13

Don't worry, the normal range is actually 3 cm either side of how many weeks you are.
It's also extremely subjective, I too had a consultant and a midwife measure me on the same day with a 3 cm difference.
It gets harder as your pregnancy progresses to get it very accurate I believe.

Your fundal height is not a reflection on how much weight you have/haven't put on, so don't worry about your weight.

Also, it's quite an inaccurate measurement and just used as a guide. The position of the baby, size of the baby and the amount of fluid around your baby all affect the measurement.
