I have Gestational Diabetes and have been advised i will be getting induced at approx 38-39 weeks im 38 weeks on Monday and have not had any discussions with my Drs as i see a different one each week so i intend to speak with them on Monday.
Can you please share what you know with me, will i have to be strapped up to the ctg machine if im induced? Also will they give me sweeps before they induce me early as surely its better to go into labour naturally? Really worried as I have read induced labour is much more painful and higher risk of needing medical help. Originally wanted a nice natural water birth before all this happened and want to keep it as natural as possible.

Very scared.

Thanks :)

I was induced at 37 weeks (possible pre-eclampsia).
I had 2 sweeps before the day itself, but nothing doing, so had hormone pessary. They put me on the CTG for 30 mins after just to make sure things were ok, then I was free to roam around as I pleased.
I had some other complications which meant I had to have an EMCS, but the midwives would have been content to let things run their natural course.

You'll be fine. Is it your first? I had bigged the birth up in my head because I didn't know what to expect, but when it came to it I really didn't care, just wanted my baby out and healthy. Try to just go with it (easier said than done!).

Oh, just noticed your name. Duh!
Good luck!

Aww thanks for this. Oh i just want a healthy happy baby to but would love to be mobile. Thats great that you got sweeps even though they didnt work at least the midwifes wanted to try things naturally first. I asked the midwifes at my hosital today and they said their policy was 40 weeks but the Drs might have different rules Confusedhope they do! Was this your first?

Yes, first. He's now 7mo. Before you know it you'll be a veteran passing on your words of wisdom.
Not sure where you are, but if your hospital's anything like mine the midwives on the labour ward will be very pragmatic, and keen for you to be up and about as that will help things progress.
My only piece of advice would be not to beat yourself up about it if things don't go according to "the plan". Whatever happens that baby is coming out!
Do you know what you are having?

I have GD and am seeing the consultant next week re an induction at 40 weeks... going to fight her off for a few extra days if I can though!

I spoke to my midwife re a sweep and she said they arent meant to do them before 40 weeks, however, if I go and see her a few days before my induction date and ask her to examine me "as I have been having tightenings" then she will gladly "examine me"...

Good luck and remember an induction isnt the end of the world! I had one first time round and it was lengthy and I spent it mostly strapped to a monitor lying on my back which didnt help anything, but I ended up with a healthy lovely little boy :)

Advice would be just stay as mobile as you can and things will be fine for you, I'm sure :)

I was induced due to pre-eclampsia. I was very upset as I'd heard bad things about induction being more painful and making it more likely to need intervention.

I had the pessaries, but they didn't work. I had to go on the drip to speed everything up, which meant I had to have the trace on all of the time. I was allowed to move but I felt I couldn't walk around with a drip in my hand (I was worried it'd pull out although the MW assured me it wouldn't!)

In my case, I managed with just G&A despite the drip, so I'd say try not to worry. I tried to see the benefits of it instead (constant monitoring to see how baby was coping, a midwife with me all the time). Good luck!
