Have been doing a bit of browsing at maternity clothes. Am only 6+3 but trousers in particular already feeling tight, although I am sure that is more bloat than bump.

ANYWAY, my question is: do your prefer under or over bump clothes and why?

over! They feel more secure. Under give me the feeling of digging in and that they might fall down at any moment.

BegoniaBigtoes · 16/08/2012 09:51

Agree over was always much more comfortable and secure feeling for me. Plus if you're 6+3 you're going to be preggers through the winter and over the bump will be much cosier.

Next are good for over-bump basics that are quite cheap, also try gap. Also I love browsing charity shops and I always come across loads of maternity stuff (obvious really, people don't need it for long) so that's a good option - you could try out different makes/styles cheaply that way.

trilottie · 16/08/2012 09:51

Over for me too. Much more secure and you don't get that cold belly feeling, everything feels nicely tucked in :)
I love my over the bump H&M jeans and wish I hadn't spent loads on under the bump Seraphine jeans as they fall down all the time.

Under the bump for me. I ended up folding the material band under the bump cos I didn't like it. I worked till 34 weeks with size 8 trousers. By the end I just didn't zip or button them. Lucky I have a mahoosive bum that kept the trousers up lol

BikeMedalsRunningMedals · 16/08/2012 10:04

I had a mix of both. Was pg in summer twice so "over" was a bit warm, but I agree, much more secure. Over bump also useful post natally if you have a c section, as "under bump" = "on the scar". ( I realise you are only 6 weeks though OP, and it may come as a bit of a shock to realise that you'll probably be in maternity clothes for up to a couple of months after the baby is born).

Over for me too!!!! Some women don't like them as they say that they fall down but a belt solves that problem. I have bought mine from
H and M- they are reasonably priced and quite trendy!

Sparklesandglitter · 16/08/2012 10:38

I prefer under the bump, I found that the over bump pants were too baggy on my bump. I bought under bump work pants at about 12 weeks in the size up and they saw me through to my mat leave and I bought ultra low rise jeans at about 9weeks that saw me through. I found new look to be great for maternity clothes, good quality but cheap! Just try them on (over bump just looked and felt like tents to me lol)

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 16/08/2012 10:41

Under the bump best for me, over the bump ones fell down all the time.

I don't know if they still do them, but I had some fabulous under the bump jeans from Topshop that I wore all the time for both pregnancies.

Wildwaterfalls · 16/08/2012 11:00

Over the bump for me too! A word of caution on jeans though: I have not been able to find over the bump jeans that stay up!! Feels like the material of the jeans is somehow too heavy for the over the bump elastic to 'hold it up', iyswim. I found some comfortable under the bump jeans at gap.

PeshwariNaan · 16/08/2012 11:29

Over! My first mat. jeans were under, and they are absolutely awful. They travel below the bum in about 5 mins. of walking. My over-the-bump ones are perfect - stay up and are very comfy. I have lots of "over" skirts and tights as well - it's all I'll buy now.

tinyshinyanddon · 16/08/2012 11:31

Under bump for me! I got jeans and cords from the gap - love them. Prob depends on climate though. This will be the first bump I take through a very cold winter (high rarely about zero for a good few weeks) so perhaps I will prefer over bump. Remember the baby furnace can make you run hotter.

Chunkychicken · 16/08/2012 12:00

It depends on the clothes!! My wonderful jeans from Verbaudet are over bump ones & sooo comfy, compared to the under bump ones I have from DP. Likewise shorts I've got are over bump & whilst quite warm, very comfy. I have under bump work trousers & skirts which are very good too. I'm also wearing a lot of my normal casual clothes under bump (if they have elastic waistbands for example) with a proper maternity T that disguises the lowered waistline.

sammyleh · 16/08/2012 12:06

Under in the early stages and over in the later stages. I'm currently avoiding my over-bump trousers because the band just irritates me in this warm weather. Ever wished it was socially acceptable to go to work naked?!

PragmaticWench · 16/08/2012 12:08

I'm being driven crazy by under-the-bump jeans that only stay up with a belt. Fine when you're upright, but it digs in when you sit down. I spend my days at work with my belt and jeans undone, hidden under my top, hoping nobody notices [I'm sure they have].

So, off to investigate over the bump options today.

tumblebug · 16/08/2012 12:20

Under - agree they dig in a bit, but by 30 weeks over the bump don't stay up and I have to walk round holding my trousers up! I don't have any hips though...

flower11 · 16/08/2012 13:51

Over are definetly more comfy, I'm now 33 weeks and the most comfortable thing for work are my over bumb trousers, got them from H+M, soft and strechy and still fit over the bump. My under bump jeans dig in now and I have to keep pulling them up, annoying and uncomfortable.

whatsoever · 16/08/2012 16:33

Under. They tend to have tighter elastic and stay up better. Only good overs I have are my Mamas & Papas joggers which have been great for yoga & lazing around, though getting a bit small now at 33 weeks.
