Going away for the weekend at 35 weeks?

Have planned to visit some friends for the weekend 120 miles away when I'm 35 weeks. Didn't give it a second thought at the time but now I'm wondering whether it's a good idea?! We'd be getting the train so no quick get away home if anything happens.

Would you go?

Yes, probably if I was having a normal pregnancy and felt up to it. Close to the line though!

stressheaderic · 15/08/2012 21:19

Yes I'd go, but take your notes with you and check where the nearest hospital is.

I am 34+6 and going to a music festival in Wales this weekend... Hoping it's not a bad idea! I am really looking forward to it, especially now the sun looks like it might make an appearance. I am not camping though! I do have my notes packed too, just in case. I guess you have to see how you feel.

I'm planning on going to an anniversary party 100 miles from home at 35 weeks, at the moment I'm going, but I will wait until nearer the time to see how I feel. I visited the in-laws 100 miles away until 34 weeks with my previous 2.

I went to my parents caravan 150 miles away when i was 40+3 with DD Smile i was thoroughly fed up at the time and needed a day out albeit a far away from the hosp day out Grin

Im not sure i'd do it again if i were to go overdue with this one but felt ok at tge time!

Blueaddie · 15/08/2012 22:39

Yes I would and yes I did......just the other week Grin

They have hospitals everywhere! If you feel ok then why not?

DH and I had a weekend away together one Easter. DS born that May! Lovely pool in the hotel. Pampered and time together before all the baby bedlam. Lovely!

squidkid · 15/08/2012 22:46

I am going away twice next week when I will be 35 weeks - once on my own on the train, about 150 miles away, to stay with a friend - and secondly with boyfriend for our "last" holiday!

I have been viewing 36 weeks as cut off point for going any distance from home. And I'll take my notes.

strugglingwiththepreteenbit · 15/08/2012 23:49

There are Midwives all over the country if you need them. Just pack your notes and make sure someone else is doing the stressy packing/train timetable following crap. Chill out and have a lovely time.
I'm thinking I'd rather like to locate myself somewhere with nice, clear, cool sea for the final few weeks...

Badgerina · 16/08/2012 01:08

Yes. I'm going to Devon (I live in London) for the weekend, when I'm 37 weeks Grin. I'm taking my notes.

PrimaBallerina · 16/08/2012 07:24

Yes go, enjoy it while you're free. 35 weeks would be early and unusual to go into labour but if you do giving birth on a train will make a great story Wink.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 16/08/2012 07:28

I went 2 yrs ago at 42 weeks!!

Nothing happened, and my induction went ahead as planned on my return the same Sunday Grin

ivanapoo · 16/08/2012 14:10

I work in an office 90 miles from home and am planning to commute (drive) there till 37 weeks...! This thread is making me think perhaps that's not realistic?

Sastra · 16/08/2012 15:16

Haha, well I'll be going to Birmingham rather than some lovely hotel, but thanks for the replies!! I thought it would be fine but I wanted to check I hadn't just missed something Grin

I'm away for a weekend in wales over my due date! I'm just going to chuck my hospital bag and notes in the car just in case and make sure I know where the nearest hospital is altho I'm working on the basis that I'm only 2 hours away so would prob have time to get home if I set off at the first sign of anything happening.
This is DC2 and I went 2 weeks over with DS so think the probability of this one being on time is fairly slim, but am seeing the consultant to see if cervix is favourable etc at 39 + 3. If it does then may decide not to go, but figure it'll be worse sat twiddling my thumbs at home waiting for something to happen!

funchum8am · 16/08/2012 17:07

I am 35 weeks today and on holiday in southern France (we drove obviously though as it is too late to fly). All fine so far and insurance company fine about it.

jenbird · 16/08/2012 22:33

I did when 37 weeks with ds1. Went to stay with a friend for the weekend about 150 miles away. Woke up in the morning and had a show. Spent the whole train journey home through the backwaters and beyond having a false labour and thinking I was going to have a baby on the train!
Went to hsp and on monitor it looked as though I was in labour (bh's every 2 minutes for hours) but no pain. Ds born 3 days later.
Not really an experience I would want to repeat but it was my first and I was naive.
However I wouldn't worry too much. Like some else says there are hospitals everywhere.
Have fun x

coffeeandwine · 16/08/2012 22:37

Had a weekend away with friends at a Centre Parcs two hours from home. No problem. First stop on arrive was customer services to find out where the nearest hospital was. Figured if I knew, nothing was bound to happen.
My only issue was that if I did go into labour, I would miss the home both I was booked for. Grin

coffeeandwine · 16/08/2012 22:38

Sorry, meant to say, at 39 weeks.
