Can I get waxed?

I've got some spa gift vouchers to use today, do you think I should get waxed for birth? I'm nearly 34 weeks. Never been waxed? Is it agony?

It's a little sorer in pregnancy. I was sugared throughout my last pregnancy and that is less sore but I got waxed once in this pregnancy and swelled up really badly down there which sort of ruined the look Wink so I'm just going to trim it from now on.

Oh no, what's sugaring Confused

I normally epalate (?sp) my legs which I find stingy rather than painful. However since becomming pregnant I have found it sooooo painful so I have resorted to shaving again! I used to have my bikini line waxed and it's not too bad but I suspect that I would find this agnony now! I've been trimming instead when needed!
I have to say, I probably wouldn't advise anyone to wax for the first time when pregnant...why dont you have anice maternity massage instead or a mani/pedi?

Oh I have a massage booked Smile maybe won't ruin it by ripping hair out too thanks for the advice Smile

I think the general guidelines are that you are better off trimming the actual genital area as having hair there is better when it comes to healing post birth but really its up to you. I've heard it hurts more when your pregnant and tbh I wouldn't do it myself as my bits are sore and swollen already so it wouldnt help. It certainly isn't more hygienic for the birth if that was your thinking. If you want a tidy up perhaps you could ask them (or someone you trust) to have a wee trim for you?

I get brazilians and have continued in my pregnancy, and it definitely hurts more. I wouldn't choose pregnancy as a time to start getting waxed, IMO.

My waxer said later on in pregnancy it can bring on broken or varicose veins as the skin is sharply pulled. I wouldn't personally risk it - possibly try epilation or immac instead?

I had a Hollywood wax at 19 weeks and didn't notice it being any more painful tbh.

MissPollysTrolleyed · 15/08/2012 14:41

Oh no, Cake Bump. I got really bad vulval varicose veins just after I was waxed. I thought it was a coincidence as I was five months pregnant and that's when vvv normally start to show. I can't believe that I may have brought this on myself by waxing.

Pickles, sugaring involves the application by hand of a paste made of natural ingredients which sticks to your skin and is rolled off by the practitioner using strips except on large areas like legs where the practitioner will use her hands.

If you're going for a massage, make sure the practitioner is qualified to give massages in pregnancy.

TBH I'd save them up for some 'you' time after the birth (a few weeks after the birth, as obviously you'll be pinned to the sofa for a while).
