Horrendous Morning Sickness

My DP is pregnant with our second, DS1 is 10 months old. Poor girl is suffering from terrible morning sickness and nausea that lasts all day. She's exhausted, can't hardly keep anything at all down.
What can I do to help? Feeling frustrated, my heart is breaking for her, because she loathes being ill and hates being inactive. I don't mind doing as much as I can for us around the house and looking after our boy but it gets her down.

What worked for other people out there? Any good remedies?

if she can't keep water and food down she should go to the gp asap and get an anti-sickness drug. Hope she feels better soon!

The GP should be able to prescribe anti sickness medication.

Small practical things that helped me were eating as soon as I'd been sick. Sounds awful, but i tended to keep it down if I did that.
I also had a glass of lucozade and would take tiny sips every so often.
I also found that the more I thought about food, the worse it was when I actually ate it. My DH used to make me loads of food so that I could just open the fridge and eat instantly without having to think about it.
I had travel sickness bands from boots that brought me from being sick 20+ times a day to it being less often.

I really feel for her - it is quite horrible.

Agree with go to GP.
It is also possible that she is expecting twins.Just saying,in case you hadnt thought of that.In which case,it can go on for weeks.
She may be able to keep dried foods down. And baked beans.
Can she keep fluids down?

If it's all day every day and she's not keeping anything down it might be Hyperemesis Gravidarum. If it is most people need some sort of medication to be able to get through it. There is a really good thread on here called Hyperemesis Support which is worth reading. I hope that's not what she has as it is very difficult to deal with, but there is help out there which should help her to get through it. Good luck.

Agree with go to the gp. I ended up taking the medicine and it helped a lot. Wasn't actually vomiting but with 2 small kids the all day all night nausea was unbearable. I hope it gives her some relief. Good luck.

Its awful deffo go to gp. I went just to get signed off and was almost quite surprised to find she was worried. Anti sickness meds did help a little.

Thanks folks.
Today she's managed half n orange and a little water.
Definitely think we'll go to the GP.

GP in the morning as soon as you can would be best

brettgirl2 · 14/08/2012 20:50

I was worse in my second pregnancy than my first also.

Haylebop12 · 14/08/2012 20:54

Definitely go to the gp, make sure they test her urine for dehydration and if so get into hosp and on a drip.
I was prescribed anti sickness meds but they were ineffective. After being admitted and given some via intravenous drip along with fluids I was able to keep them down orally. It was all about breaking the sick cycle for me
My gp was reluctant to prescribe me any anti sickess so if this is the case plead with them!
Also there is more then one type so
If one doesn't work try another!!

Haylebop12 · 14/08/2012 20:55

And remember sickness is a sign of high pg hormones and a strong pg!
