Elective c sec or Vbac after moderate pre-eclampsia? Any experience of either?

I'm 21 weeks and had a negligent and horrendous birth with 1st baby who thank-fully survived. I'm in 2 minds whether to go for an elective c sec at 38 weeks and take the risk out (that's if I get to 38) Even then Im not sure if Id be allowed- one consultant said Id be a definite vbac and not allowed to request a c sec. Any advice?

Your consultant is wrong (if you're in the UK). The guidelines for an elective section are that the consultant decides in consultation with the Mother. They cannot deny you if you insist and if a consultant thinks its not in your and baby's interests and won't do it then they have to refer you to another consultant. Ultimately you decide. I insisted having researched both options, I did that while a 70% vbac success rate might seem good overall it was not reassuring enough for me as an individual, I was scared of uterine rupture and of another emergency section and accepted the longer recovery time as a worthwhile price to pay for the lower risk of a planned section. I had to push, I met some lovely midwives, a rude patronising registrar an finally asked to see the top consultant. You might have to be difficult to get what you want but ultimately the hospital will be following guidelines and statistics in the interest of MOST women. You are the only advocate for YOU as an individual.

You must be reading my mind. Excellent advice. I have my first appointment with new consultant very soon. If they refuse, Ill be going further afield.

My gut instincts are always right and c sec is exactly what I want.
