Help - worried I may have accidentally ingested animal poo!!!!

We went to a playbarn for a birthday party today, that is attached to a farm.

When DS was sat down eating I had a strong whiff of poo, so whipped him away to have his nappy changed. However, there was no poo! I realised later that the smell was following me round, and it was all over my sandal, some on my handbag, and there was a bit of a smell on my left hand.

I'm panicking because I had been picking at food after I had noticed the smell, especially as I could smell it on my left hand (though I do mostly eat with my right.)

I have come home, washed myself from top to bottom, and made myself sick to bring up any nasties I may have swallowed.

Should I be worrying? Should I try and make myself sick again to make sure everything I've had today is out of my system? Should I go the docs tomorrow?

I am so upset and angry about this, surely this is a health and safety hazard having manure on the floor of a children's play barn!

Made yourself sick? That's more of a worry to me than animal poo. Or am I falling for a really obvious troll? Hmm

BumgrapesofWrath · 12/08/2012 17:21

No I'm not a troll at all - why is making myself sick bad??

Stay calm
Do not make yourself sick
Any risk is very low
Perhaps ring midwife for support tomorrow
The warnings are more of an " avoid if possible", not "panic if this happens"
IYSWIM
It will be fine

Thank you! I'm just worried I suppose because you do hear of E-Coli outbreaks associated with these petting farm places...

If it was that much of a concern to you, maybe you shouldn't have gone in the 1st place or asked someone else to take your DS.

Also maybe it's just me but I always wash my hands before eating and think it's even more important to do so around farm area's etc.

If you have ingested some then there's nothing you can do about it now, you'll most probably be fine.

Kirsty I went because it was a playbarn attached to a farm - I didn't go outside or anywhere near the animals so didn't think it would be an issue.

Also, I think I trod on the manure half-way through when we were eating (not sure if that's 100% clear from my OP). Because that was when I smelt it. I believe I had trod on some manure that someone had walked in to the party room.

Hi op
Hope your feeling a bit better
The outbreaks of ecoli are exactly that, specific outbreaks
The reason they made the news is that it is so uncommon
The animals and conditions in farm parks are usually very good
remember they are letting toddlers (not the most hygenic of animal!) come into close contact with the park animals
Was the farm park, and particularly the animal pens clean?
Remember the rules are about reducing overall risk
The actual risk to a specific low load is tiny
Repeat after me,tiny!
