Hi guys, only 4 weeks to go until my due date and i am trying to sort out the nursery. buying some bedding and i have no idea what im supposed to be buying! I bought a cot-bed, does this mean i need cotbed bedding rather than cot bedding? i was going to buy one of those sets but they are £80 in m&ps, think thats a bit ridiculous! has anyone any suggestions of where i can get cheaper sets? there was a cute one on tesco website but its called a cot bedding set so i dunno if it would fit and they have no measurements on the description! aaggh babies are dear :) Hellpppp

You will need cot bed sheets, blankets etc as cot ones will fall short.

Have you tried the other supermarkets?

Mothercare sets were always good and reasonably priced iirc, although it has been a few years so it may have changed.

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 10/08/2012 13:49

I second mothercare sets - they were much cheaper than M&P :)

FamiliesShareGerms · 10/08/2012 13:57

Mothercare better and good quality. Argos, BabysRUs cheaper still, esp if you can wash the bedding a few times to soften it

joanna1985 · 10/08/2012 14:33

thanks i just ordered one of mothercare, still think that 60 quid is quite expensive for a wee quilt and bumper! this is the start of it i suppose!

A couple of sheets are All the bedding you'll need if you use grow bags for the baby. Plus I would get a few cellular blankets from mother are.

Mothercare

M&S are good, order online and pick up for free instore. John Lewis are good quality too and have all the dimensions on line. Yes you need cotbed not cot sized sheets etc. I bought a single waterproof mattress cover from Ikea and cut it down to fit, cost about £10.

Cookiesandcream06 · 10/08/2012 15:41

With my first DD I spent money on a set (was all about a pretty/matching nursery etc) when in fact it's recommended not to use a bumper and you can't use a quilt till 12 months anyhoo.
This time round I won't be spending money on this- all you need is some sheets - I would recommend fitted ones, and yes do get cot bed size (if you can keep them from getting stained they will last for years when cot has turned into a bed) and get cellular blankets and maybe a baby sleeping bag (in the correct tog) for the time of year. (I had a spare too)
Do look around in supermarkets, I had some cheapie ones from Tesco that lasted me yonks.

Tk max....

hit and miss what they have in, but just seen in my local a lot of cot bedding stuff.

babys r us in the sale - ebay...

moses baskets etc i would go go baby sales and car boots- just seen three moses at car boot for 8 - 15 pounds.

baby sleeping bags and toddler bags are also in tk max had loads in when i was there last week...very nice ones too! much chepaer than bigger stores...

ikea of course,, and supermarkets.

i would persoanlly say places like mamas are only for a few really speical items, but mostly stupidly over rpices.

elizaregina · 11/08/2012 11:20

bumpers are not recomended....baby can roll under it and soffocate etc..all sorts of things

bigkidsdidit · 11/08/2012 11:23

You don't need a duvet for a baby, just some sheets, some blankets for swaddling and a sleeping bag. John Lewis value sheets ate very good.

forevergreek · 11/08/2012 11:27

Just a cot bed sheet. Then either wrap baby in blanket or sleeping bag. The duvets are not suitable until +1 and the bumpers are dangerous and not recommended as baby can suffocate.

Spend £15 on a nice organic cotton sheet and that's all you need

MrClaypole · 11/08/2012 11:32

kiddicare are brilliant, lots of cheaper options and free next day delivery in a given 1 hour time slot.

You need cotbed fitted sheets to cover the mattress and you may like to get a waterproof sheet to go underneath instead of leaks!

They do an "airwrap bumper" which is safe for small babies as it is made of "breathable" mesh stuff. Highly recommended, DS2 has one and it stops him babging himself on the bars.

I would not bother with sheets/blankets etc and just go for a sleeping bag - again Kiddicare do good ones for £8.99 and they are nice quality (DS" has loads!) I also got s few off ebay.

You will need a few blankets for out and about and unplanned naps so suggest some cotton cellular ones as baby can still breathe if the blanket goes over the nose. PLus a thicker one for Winter.

Some0ne · 11/08/2012 11:36

Steer clear of M&P, they're stupidly expensive. Ikea is brilliant for baby and toddler stuff.

If I were you I'd get 2 sheets (for messes during the night!) and 2 sleeping bags. Get a mattress protector as well, a machine washable one, to go under the sheet. And a biggish blanket that you can fold into a couple of layers (a nice breathable blanket though, no fleece, it's too hot). That's all I really use.

Oh, and a small blanket for the pram and carseat.

You can use a pillowcase as a sheet in a moses basket or a pram.

backwardpossom · 11/08/2012 12:14

These Airwrap bumpers look great if you want something to stop baby getting his/her legs/arms etc trapped in between the bars.
