Bra getting tight?

Hope you lovely ladies can help :) I'm almost 34 weeks and my current bras, which I got from bravissimo have been getting a bit tight. I got a pack of bra extenders which sorted it to start with but getting on the tight side again........ I was going to go back to bravissimo at 36 weeks for nursing bras and so naturally I am really reluctant to spend £30ish on a new bra I'll wear for days?

I have seen the bravado nursing bras that come in s,m,l and wondered whether to get one of these on the basis it would last me the last few weeks of my pregnancy, then I could use for nursing until my sizes settle and delay my trip to bravissimo till then ??

but.......(!) the (tight) bras I'm wearing now are a 34e which is a bravado medium so I guess I'm more like a 36e at least now I which is a bravado large, so wondering with 6 weeks to go and then rib cage going down but breasts getting bigger whether a medium or large is best. Confused

Throw in all the literature about ill fitting bras causing problems with breast feeding I feel like I'm about to have a breakdown about this !:( Sorry if this reads like complete waffle!

Interesting I didn't know that. I'm only a DD so I don't think I need to worry too much about unsupported weight. But I do need new bras cause I'm fed up with sore boobs. Whole lifetime and this has never been an issue before

Yup I've heard underwired is only really a problem 1) when your boobs have milk in and 2) if the wire doesn't fit properly. You need it to go properly around the outside of the breast to the side of your body, rather than cutting across it.

Thanks both that helps. Am planning on a weekend bra shopping trip. Living life on the edge!

I don't know if it helps but as long as it isn't uncomfortable, red marks aren't a problem. The band needs to be firm to support, and like anything of that tightness (think about sock tops, waistbands) it might leave an imprint or red mark
If it's uncomfy that's a different matter

I have a question about wired v non-wired as well.

I have never worn a non-wired bra in my life since I'm a D cup and am heading towards E-G territory at a fast rate. How in the world is a non-wired bra supposed to hold the girls up, especially when they feel so heavy?

Any advice from fellow sufferers? I'm in cheap M&S bras at the moment (bought in an emergency boob-growth period at 7 weeks!) but we're getting to the edge...

Oops, sorry - I clearly missed the discussion!!! Blush

I'll just find some wired ones that fit til I give birth...

I'm only 25 weeks but about to move into nursing bras from first time round for comfort. Want to avoid buying any more until much later on, but mine are all so tight.

If anyone is london, forget Bravissimo and got to Rigby and Peller. The bras on their webiste are expensive, but in the shop they have a much bigger selection of stuff and the service is excellent.

I'm dreading to think how much I need to spend on bras over the next 6 months or so. Was a 34F to start with and most of my bras are beginning to feel very uncomfortable indeed already. Am only 7 + 4!

Everyone I have spoken to has advised not to wear wired bras, it restricts the movement in your breast tissue and can cause mastitus once your milk starts producing,or so I am told? A lot of the women I know who have had children have said the same, particularly those with larger sized assets, they have had more problems.

Personally i've stopped wearing my UW Bra's because even those that do fit leave marks and dont sit comfortably any more. I have even more problem getting the size I need without the wires but it is definately worth it in the comfort department!

marriednotdead · 22/08/2012 22:04

Hevaniceday a properly fitting bra, underwired or not, will not restrict or damage breast tissue during pregnancy.

The jury's still out about wires during breast feeding- I usually advise against it because of the huge variations in cup size across the course of a day.

Last time i was pregnant I went MENTAL trying to find the perfect bra. Eventually got this one bravadobliss following helpful advice from the guy who runs the online business. I'd got really fed up with those non underwired ones (from Bravissimo etc) that give you a really weird sticky out boob shape. This one isn't properly wired but does have a bit of sort of soft wire in the middle to make it a good shape. And it stretches well as your bump gets bigger. The cup size is pretty small though so I'd order a size bigger than your usual fit.
Preg again now and boobs too massive to fit in these again (they only go up to an H/I cup - equivalent of an F/G cup) so not sure what I'm going to do this time. Good luck!
