Is anyone else still feeling sick at 18 weeks +?

I thought it had gone away - well, I had a bad cold last week and during that although I felt ill, the morning sickness thing kind of disappeared.

But now the cold has gone and I feel awful again.

It's not like before - when I was sort of 14-17 weeks, I 'knew' it would go away soon, so I had hope, even though it was still hanging around a bit, but now I'm 18 weeks I think I am running out of hope so the only thing I want to do is crawl back into bed and try and pretend I'm not here.

Which of course is a bit crap for my other children.

Is anyone else having this extended morning sickness, or has anyone had it for this long and then it did go away?

Desperate for encouragement before I give up. Thankyou x

With both pregnancies mine eased off at 20 weeks and then was gone by 23 weeks ish. It varies massively from person to person. The '12 week' guideline doesn't always ring true unfortunately.

Though I did have hyperemesis - so a much more severe version of morning sickness (all blooming day long sickness!)

Fingers crossed you are nearing the end of it!

Thankyou, Jennie, that's really good to know - mine was really hard to cope with till about 14 weeks, when it slowly got a bit easier and I was able to stop taking the medication so much.

Having read about HCG levels it seems to make no sense that it's still hanging around for so long when it ought to have dropped right off - iyswim? Might have been better not to have read about it! Smile

I'm glad there is still hope that it might stop. Thankyou.

It is ofcourse differnt for everyone, but just to give you a bit of hope mine started to ease off at 18 weeks and was gone completely by 22 weeks...

EmilieFloge · 08/08/2012 13:09

Thankyou...that is very good to hear Smile

It is just a flicker of hope I think I need. I am so down at the moment, imagining it is not going to go away ever.

So if it can pull a stunt like that, maybe it will for me as well...my last two pregnancies were not easy either but it did ease off eventually. I can't remember exactly when. I just hope it does the same.

Thanks again x

Is it maybe that you are tired and run down from the cold and your other children? I am 19 weeks with no. 3 and was poorly last week with chesty cold - it really knocked me back and I started feeling generally sick and also tearful. I haven't suffered that badly with sickness in the pregnancy, just felt a bit sea sick, but it definitely comes back when I'm a bit under the weather.
So so hard to get the sleep we need with other children to care for! Hope you feeling better soon

MissPollysTrolleyed · 08/08/2012 15:50

Mine started coming and going at about 18 weeks and disappeared altogether at 20 weeks so I think you might be on your way out of the woods.

I am 32 weeks now and despite heaviness, varicose veins, vulval veins, anaemia and all kinds of other niggles, I'm so glad to be beyond the morning sick stage as that was definitely the hardest part. Hope you feel better soon.

Pinkflipflop · 08/08/2012 16:15

Well I'm not as far along as you, 15w 6d and am still suffering from nausea especially in the morning before I eat.

Hope it goes totally soon!

cherrypiew3 · 08/08/2012 23:49

Hi I am 22 weeks now and my morning sickness was really bad until 20 weeks and even now I am still sick in the mornings but only once so I can cope.
This is my fourth pregnancy and although I have suffered with ms in all my other pregnancies it normally stopped at the 12 week mark.

I have found that if I am tired it made me feel worse and drinking lemon and ginger tea helped.

Not much help I know but I hope you start to feel better soon.

EmilieFloge · 09/08/2012 07:38

Thankyou all so much. Sorry, I felt really rubbish yesterday afternoon and ended up back in bed pretty much till night time. I even took my medication which I hadn't touched since about 14 weeks. It did help a bit.

Sorry you are going through the same thing, those of you who still are, and Miss Polly I'm sorry about all the other things! Pregnancy seems to throw new challenges at us all the time doesn't it - things we don't expect.

I'm trying hard to be positive today as I've spent enough time despairing. I tried to take the children out somewhere yesterday but gave up and came home as I felt too ill. I'll try again today.

Thankyou for the hope, perhaps it will be gone in a few weeks...I'm sort of trying to resign myself to another 5 months of it though, just in case. I was feeling so lucky last week, when it goes, even for a few days it is like coming back to life again.

Cherry, can I just ask, were your other children the same gender - my other two were boys, and I'm wondering if I will feel bad for longer this time if it's a girl. Probably nothing in that theory but you never know.

Keep taking your meds for a while- even when not sick. I found if I stopped I would relapse. Stop taking them only when you've been sick free for a week or so.

Ps. Both mine are girls

Pascha · 09/08/2012 08:12

Hey Emilie! Last time the sickness disappeared when I gave birth Hmm. I'm 19 weeks now and the sickness is confined to brushing my teeth and some nausea after eating.

DH has now taken to spitting out his toothpaste after brushing with an exaggerated pukey sound just to make DS laugh as that's what mummy does!

Bastard.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 09/08/2012 08:15

Mine took ages to go too, but I feel fine at 25 weeks.

One thing - my pregnancy vit was making it seriously worse. I didn't realise until I went a few days without taking them and then took one and was really sick all morning. So could be worth a shot!

EmilieFloge · 09/08/2012 08:19

Thanks Jennie, for your kind posts - that is a good idea to keep taking it.

Oh sorry, x posts! I had this open in another tab and got involved on another thread Blush

Pascha Grin at your DH. That's so unfair!

Fruit, that is really encouraging, thankyou...lots of people seem to be finding it goes around 20-23 weeks or so, I'm going to cling to that as my new 12 weeks Smile

Emilie my first dc was a girl and the sickness was bad the next 2dc were boys and although I was sick I could cope. This time it has been awful and the medication stopped working my little bump is a girl. I had a feeling baby was going to be a girl because my pregnancy is so similar to my first dc.

EmilieFloge · 10/08/2012 07:20

Cherry, thankyou and congratulations on another little girl Smile

I will find out in a couple of weeks.

Today I am 32+3, and I still feel sick :( I am terrible at pregnancy :(

EmilieFloge · 10/08/2012 07:46

You poor thing Sad That is awful.

I've figured out it is another 153 days till my due date...and I've already done just over four months - and tbh it seems like it might go quite fast, even though it is horrible. I know it will be horrible if it stays like this.

But I guess if it does last till the baby is born, at least it will stop after that, and I am not going to have any more because I can never, ever go through this again.

Milk I hope you are managing as best you can. I despair of us ever going anywhere again, this holiday.
