SPD or pregnancy niggles

I'm 23 weeks pg with DC2 and my pelvis hurts!

I remember this with DC1 - the mw said it was part of being pg and to keep my legs together as much as possible, e.g. when getting out of bed or the car.
It seems worse this time. I went for a not very long walk in the park on Sunday, and could barely move that evening, or sleep from the pain. It's fine now, however. At the back on the left hand side, it feels like there's a lump of bone that's sticking out, and this gets more prominent the more I do.

What do drs/mws use as the cut off point between a diagnosis of SPD and a diagnosis of just being pregnant?

Oh I feel your pain, I was at the doctors yesterday for the same reason. Struggling to walk and sleeping/getting out of bed and a chair is an absolute nightmare so thought I'd get checked out. Doctor had a prod and a push and advised me to get a support belt if it gets worse but didn't mention anything about SPD, he just said that I can probably. Might be worth having a word with your MW when you see her next, I'm going to because i think they're a bit more sympathetic to pregnancy related niggles :)

In my first pregnancy spd was diagnosed by the doctor having a feel of my pelvis and assessing the gap that it had opened and then referring me to a physio for a check.
In my second pregnancy it was confirmed by ultrasound over the pelvic joints where the gap was measured.
If you think it could be SPD then get yourself along to the doctor as soon as you can, proper management of SPD can really help with your pain levels.

I diagnosed myself based on others' descriptions and asked to be referred to the gynae physio who has been lovely. Think it just says 'pelvic pain' on my notes but I've had the help and advice I needed and managed to carry on for a lot longer than I would have managed otherwise. I'm struggling now but I am 40+6 and hopefully don't have many more days to go!

I am 31 weeks and have just been to a group maternity physio session to help with SPD... I mentioned this pain early on to my midwife but she only gave me the number for self referral to physio at the maternity hospital at my last appointment.
The physio was full of advice and techniques all of which sound great but require a lot of thinking about and dedication to actually do them all... I feel unless I'm going to do all my exercises 4 times a day and the list of other things as long as my arm I'm just going to have to grin and bear it...mine affects me worst when sleeping (well trying to sleep).
There are a few excerizes to try on an excersize ball.... if pain is on the outside of your pelvis, back, inner legs then use heat 20mins 4x per day... Cold if the pain is on your pubic bone...but neither should be put on your bump!!! climbing steps one at a time...sitting squarely...not crossing your legs/ankles...rolling a towel up behind the arch of your back if sitting lot at work.... The list is endless.
Best to push to see physio...they say you can have a one to one session if all of the above don't help...but...there won't be a quick cure!!!

Thanks all. Seeing my physio friend soon so will ask her for a quick grope! Until then will use heat (it's on my back) and get the birth ball blown up.
