Oh my god the searing pain, I don't know what has happened.

On Friday I had a mild pain in my pubic area which was only there when I was walking or moving in a certain way. Saturday, Sunday and Monday it was not there so just forgot about it. Then last night at about 6pm it started to come back so I just rested and thought it would go away like it did before. Woke up this morning and it was still there, but nothing too major, just a bit of discomfort.

Put some body lotion on my legs after my shower (wondering if this is the culprit as had alternate legs on the toilet seat), and now I cannot walk. I mean each step I take, there is a searing pain. I can crawl, but not walk. It's agony.

What do I do? Do you think this will ease off if I rest?

I thought this sort of ting only appeared at about 25 weeks or so.

Feeling really down as now feel like I am completely sofa bound and have a 4yo ds to look after Sad.

Help!

I have had pelvic girdle pain early in pregnancy, then it vanishes, and then comes back at the very end if I overdo it. Hope yours passes!

Just wanted to come back on and apologise for not replying to some of you who have taken the time to post - was on my phone yesterday and missed some of the messages.

MoonHare - that sounds like a terrible experience that you had with the physio. I might look into a chiropractor then if that helped you.

sundaesundae - sorry I missed that you are suffering too - sympathies. Hope it isn't anything too serious/painful and it passes quickly.

sedgieloo - I am glad that you got help from the obstetric physio - I am hoping that my GP might refer me today, although like everything else, I am dreading a huge waiting list.... We have a mattress that has a layer of memory foam on the top so hopefully that will be helping.

MrsPaynie - sorry to hear you are having a bad day. Kids are so cute aren't they - my DS keeps saying "don't worry" too and getting me toys to cuddle (if only something as simple as that could make you feel better!)

piedaterre - that's interesting - really hope mine vanishes too!

I am touching wood whilst typing this, but it has improved a bit today. I can walk very slowly, and have driven 25 minutes each way to the hospital (was there about something totally unrelated).

I do feel in a bit of pain now but it's not as agonising to walk.

Fingers crossed......

Hi Magic, want to do this together? I had SPD from later on with DD. I'm now 12 weeks with my second and the pain started a couple of weeks again, getting much worse this week. It hurts to sit in my chair in the office. I will be seeing the GP on Tuesday. Unfortunately, last time even though i saw a physio, i was given a support and told to take paracetamol and basically had to deal with it. I'm terrified of having to be signed off sick if I end up unable to drive, walk, sit... do anything. Hope it all goes ok at the docs for you.

MagicMikesThong · 08/08/2012 21:07

Aw nearlythere I'd love to Grin

Sorry to hear you had a difficult time last time.

Well I went to the GP and she laughed and said "It's going to be a long pregnancy for you then!"

She said I can't take anything for it and to have hot baths and rub some olbas oil into my back.

I told her that the pain was in my pubic bone and she laughed and said, "OH well don't rub olbas oil into that!"

She has referred me for physio but no idea when I will hear.

Well she sounds like a great help Hmm
See what you get from the physio and if that doesn't help go back to the doctors and get a second opinion. Too many doctors don't recognise spd as a problem. If the pain gets worse then there are things they can give you. I'm on quite a high dose of codine on prescription from my consultant, and was on co-codamol in my last pregnancy, also on prescription. Good luck with it hun. Any advice on coping techniques feel free to ask, and I'll help best I can, I'm not a medical expert by any means but I know what's helped me get through it.

Totally useless mike Sad. On the pain relief front, physio and MWs advised last time that paracetamol works best if you allow it to build in your system, so essentially take the maximum dose, every day, whether you are in a lot of pain or not. I really hope the physio works for you. I couldn't get comfy unless lying fully down last night. I can see a lot of time in bed coming up.

MrsPaynie · 09/08/2012 09:08

I had the same advice from my doctors Nearly about letting the paracetamol building up in your system, apparently its more effective that way than just taking it when you feel the pain starting again.

Sorry to hear your GP wasn't so great magic. Can you call the obstetric physio yourself? We self refer in my hospital so I referred myself as soon as I felt first twinges. I had been seeing occ health physio for a back problem and they had also said to refer ASAP! My physio has been good, I'm not sure there is all that much they can do tho. She gave me tubigrip, a support contraption belt and then last week got given crutches. I had an appt yesterday and she has started acupuncture as that is seemingly good for SPD pain. I am willing to try anything. I am 26 weeks and I've just been signed off of work as well :-( I only have 4 weeks to go til I was due to start my holidays prior to mat leave. Not sure I will get back before then and even if off sick I'd lose my holidays as they need to be taken before mat leave. But at least I'm not struggling into work now!

I have just been through this with my second pregnancy so I deeply sympathise with all of you. If it is any comfort, I had DS2 a fortnight ago and the pain has pretty much gone. When I was pregnant I slept on a softer mattress with pillows behind my back, under my bump and between mid thigh to ankle. Avoid hoovering, lifting heavy objects and pushing trolleys/prams/wheelie bins if you can and if you are able, get others to pick stuff up from the floor. Some people swear by chiropractors and a couple of sessions have fixed things - I couldn't get there so didn't get to find out. So many women suffer with SPD/pelvic girdle pain, but it isn't really dealt with sufficiently by the NHS, it's learning to manage the pain and put up with it, rather than cure. Hope things get better for you.

BlingLoving · 09/08/2012 10:21

I truly sympathise. Mine kicked in at about 14 weeks. I cannot recommend a chiropractor enough. The pelvis movi g wrong is very common in pregnant women and those who have had children and it needs to be adjusted. A lot of the pain li g term is the result of inflammation of the joints caused by the pelvis being out of alignment. Unfortunately the mainstream medical profession caring for women who are pregnant takes a ridiculously casual approach to the issue.

If you can afford it, find a good chiro. They MUST be registered with British Chiropractic Association and, ideally, should have a specialisation in pregnant women. Personal recommendations are best. I can recommend ones in the City, Surrey and SW London. Believe me, they can help.

Interesting to hear the recommendation on chiropractor rather than physio and glad that helped.

I am going to talk to GP on Monday and see if i can get private referral.
